Blood and gore or mind games?

Tell what it is about scary movies that frighten you the most. Blood and gore or head games?

For me its head games. the slasher and splatter films overdo it too much for me. they just come off as more comical then scary. put something in there that's going to play with my mind and let my imagination run free though and it completely freaks me out. unfortunately though there are very few movies that let your imagination just go. they always have to show something that always turns out goofy or just plain stupid or way too predicable and that just ruins it for me.

When Did Paranormal Become Abnormal?

I have been trying to get to the general time period when ghosts in western civilization became something for kids and nutcases. I grew up around Little Italy in Cleveland and the unseen was taken for granted, the evil eye and spirit of Uncle Luigi were taken for granted. That was around the early to mid '60's.

There was a resurgence of spiritual interest after WWII, and steady involvement thru the Korean conflict. So I'm not exactly sure when the interest and study of the supernatural became something for the sideshow or shady charactors.

I'm beginning to think it had to be around the time when TV became widespread, and the threat of nuclear annihilation became an obsession, but can't really put a real good handle on it. It almost snuck in and took over inch by inch. Maybe the space program did it in, with psudo rationality taking over the culture.

This affliction seems to be just in the west, the rest of the world taking the unseen world in stride as part of the daily routine. So, when did the change occur? And why?

So jump right in, maybe we can get a consensus?

Some Cemetery Pics

Hey everyone.

I've got a couple of pictures to share with you. I took these around midnight on Monday 11/9/09 at Judd's Cemetery in Cookeville TN. If you would like to comment on them please do.

Just to give you a rundown on the conditions - it was not raining at the time of these photo's but rain was definitely on it's way. It rained later on for the rest of the morning and on into the day. It was cool outside but not cold enough to see your breath. All three of these were taken from my car leaning over the passenger side seat with the window down. In all three photos there is a large tree in the distance off center to the left in the top two and off center right in the bottom. In the bottom one you can see a bit of my rear view in the lower left corner. I used a flash and low light setting on my Kodak digital camera.

I have a few others from the same place that I took outside of the car, and I had a few orbs in the others as well, but these had the most interesting things in them I thought.

Hello everyone,

I was originally worried about posting this because I dont want to be mistaken as a spammer, but I see others have posted similar topics without being deleted, so I assume this is ok.

I operate GhostHauntings.Org & it`s been online since June of 2006. Presently I am in the process of updating the site with new content & would like for any of you that have true stories and/or photos to submit them for publication.

We have a Haunted Places Index as well, but it needs a lot of work as presently I only have the state of Washington listed.
Why be a skeptic?

I'll start out by saying that I, personally, am a believer in the paranormal. I've had tons of experiences that even I, an intelligent and rational person, cannot debunk with mundane, scientific explanations. However, I consider myself to be very open-minded and whole-heartedly welcome other, contrasting views and beliefs. I even think that skepticism is a vital part of the paranormal community, as it keeps things organized and logical and ultimately allows the paranormal to be taken seriously. To better understand the paranormal community, I'd like to understand what, how, and why skeptics do the things they do. If you're a skeptic, could you please answer some of the questions listed below?

1. What does it mean to be a skeptic?

2. Why are you a skeptic? What motivates you to participate in this paranormal forum?

3. What does a skeptic do? How do they do it?

That last question's a little awkward, but you get the idea. I want to understand the skeptic mindset.

Question about something I have been dealing with

Firstly I want to put it out there that I am not a Christian and therefore concepts from that religion do not jibe with me. I have nothing against it, it is simply not my personal path. For this reason, I do not see things in terms of angels and demons. For me, the other dimensions have those who would seek to help and those who would seek to do harm just like here and just like here, things are not always as they appear. There is no complete right or wrong, there are lessons and more lessons. Some that are pleasurable and some that are painful.

All this said; I have been dealing with these little creatures from another plane of existence that look like gargoyles. They try to attack and do not seem to have a mind of their own. They are more animal like but with some ability to communicate. The thing is that they do not feel whole. Like they are a part of something else. Like some sort of a shell of a thing that has some form of consciousness yet only does the bidding for something or someone else.

I know this sounds strange and believe me, I think so too. Yet; it is what it is and until I came to these conclusions I had all sorts of trouble with these little guys. They move around quickly and it can be hard to spot them. I'm still trying to get a complete handle on them.

My question is; has anyone else here ever dealt with or seen something like this? If so, what is your take on them? Aside from simply assuming them to be "demons"?

Galveston Ghost Tour

My boyfriend and I went and stayed in Galveston for a night this past Saturday, October 17th 2009 and we went on a ghost tour this guy does several times through out the year...
( http://www.ghosttoursofgalvestonisnald.com ) During the tour Dash, the tour guide ,spoke mostly about the history that the town of Galveston,Tx has...We walked along the strand learning of old civil war ghost stories, and mostly stories from the great storm of 1900.. In this photo I have shared, I can faintly make out a woman walking down the stair case... A friend of mine saw the original, which I hadn't ligthened up yet, and said she saw it before I ever even did it... Let me know what you think of it....Or if you can see it..
BEFORE

<BR>
AFTER

in some instances do you think skeptics come up with crazier answers than believers?

i've had my own experiences. seen some stuff. but thats not exactly what i'm here to talk about. have you ever been in or heard of a situation where there is no logical explanation as to why it happens. in these situations majority of believers would say "ghost", even without "proof",but some of the things i've heard skeptics say to explain how it could have "logically" happened make less sense than it being a ghost. if you have any examples of this i would love to hear them.

short ex: i was alone in my kitchen,2 other people were in the dining rook which is,obviously seperated by a wall but no door.as i was looking for something in a cupboard a good...15 feet away from the fridge i heard a sound(i didnt then think "ghost" i thought it was the fridge). i looked towards the fridge because the sound caught me off guard, and when i did a box of rice krispies, that was pushed securely back away from the edge, flew off the top of the fridge and landed past where i was standing BEFORE it hit the ground, and then slid almost all the way into the dining room.
the 2 people in the dining room heard the box hit and came to see what it was. i was still standing by the cupboard, top ramen in hand, and i told them exactly what i typed here.

could i explain what it was after inspecting where ti was?no
does that mean it COULDN'T have been something natural?no,im no expert of how fridges work, maybe they twitch, who knows haha.
was it a ghost or other paranormal "thing"i have no idea

now if you want to call em a liar,be my guest. the story is 100% true,i have no proof, but this stuff DOES happen and its the kind of stuff people base their belief/disbelief on.please,if you think it wasnt a ghost, feel free to say so.just dont say i or my tiny cat bumped into the fridge. didnt happen

please give examples of storys+what skeptics said

Friday the 13th

I was reading somewhere that the origin of the bad luck associated with Friday the 13th came from a raid on Templar Knights by the French Kings. Anyone else ever hear this?
