What a beautiful building... My heart lept when I saw this picture... such a shame someone can't do something about it. This is where I wish I was rich beyond means and could restore old gothic structures like this.

i agree its a shame when something gets old throw it away thats how we think now forget history i wish i could buy all thyeratened buildings but i cant

I went to the Asylum today and took the 1st floor tour. I just had to post because I noticed people saying its closed down. So for those who want a tour, head to Weston,WV . OMG it is just awsome in person to see this place and feel it and even smell it. I really wish the haunted house had been cleaned up better, it kinda took away from being taken in by the place. it definately had a feeling. I cant wait to get my pictures developed. Anyway, go see it. I am in Charelston WV right now, but my new home is in Georgia. I cant wait to explore the Cival War stuff.

Unfortunately ,America is all about the dollar....making it..not spending it to preserve history..there's no money or not enough money to be made with preserving.

I think you will be happy to know that this lovely old building has been saved!!! A man named Joe Jordan, an asbestos contracter from Morgantown, WV purchased the hospital for $1.5 million in 2006. He has already repaired all of the roof (to prevent any further damage to the interior, which is in serious disrepair) and has begun renovations on the building. There are tours offered most of the year and there is talk of using the hospital as a convention center/ town hall/ casino. It's certainly big enough for all of that. I'm just so happy that someone came along to save this beautiful Kirkbride building. We have lost so many of them to new condos and construction over the years, that one can't help but feel a little bit of our history gets stripped away when one comes down. Anyway, I thought you'd like to know that at least this one has been saved and is in the process of being preserved and repurposed.

I agree and it is a shame that all most americans seem to care about anymore is money. Buildings like this one and Waverly Hills are such a huge part of our history and noone seems to care anymore.

I've never been into an historic asylum, but would love to someday.

$150 a person is ridiculous imo thats alot of money for just a few hours they are not even offering full night stays...

Its a beautiful old building Wynki I would love to see some photo's that you have taken yourself.

Though the ones you have posted do look somewhat "creepy" I would tribute that to the first being black & white film and overcast day the second is less inviting I think due to the surrounding iron fence and lack of trees.

Since these photos are of the building as it was new "life" may not have had a chance to infuse it, I would imagine photos taken today would be more likely to reveal something.

I toured there during the Summer-time.

I actually got like 100 pictures. But its not that interesting, no ghosts or anything unusual.
