has anyone else been to the witchery in edinburgh?this is definately a very haunted location.my boyfriend and i stayed there a few months ago,and i kept hearing whispering noises in our room, and in the light of the coal fire i swear i saw the figure of a woman dressed in a long white nightdress who looked as though she was crying, the room was filled with such sadness that i myself started crying.when my boyfriend awoke the woman semmed to just disappear through the fire place.but i will never forget the look of such sadness on her face.

I was there in 2000, great place... creepy atmospere...

As for history, it was built atop the place where witches were hung and was later used as a meeting place by the Hellfire Club.

Have never been to The Witchery - but have wanted to for years. The website shows it to be a gorgeous hotel/restaurant, and definitely haunted. www.thewitchery.com

Here is some of the non-haunted basic information --

Located in an historic sixteenth-century building at the gates of Edinburgh Castle, James Thomson's Witchery is the most atmospheric and spectacular dining destination in the city.

A unique location, stunning interiors and superlative food, wine and service create memorable and magical dining experiences for locals, visitors and celebrities alike. Ewan MacGregor, Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta Jones, Jack Nicholson and Clarissa Dickson Wright have all succumbed to its charms, with Andrew Lloyd Webber calling it the prettiest restaurant ever!

Originally built for an Edinburgh merchant in 1595, this historic building on the Royal Mile now includes the jewel-like Witchery diningroom, the spectacular Secret Garden and a collection of totally indulgent and opulent suites on the floors above and in an adjacent historic building.

There is also a good site for ghost tours including the Witchery -- www.witcherytours.com

Oh, I would love to spend a night there! It's already been two years since I've been to Edinburgh. It's such a wonderful and fascinating city. I also want to go on a  tour. Maybe next year...

I have been to Edinburgh once, but I don't remember a witchery. Neat place, though.
