After some conversations with friends, I got curious as to what was the origin of people's interest in such things as ghosts, evps, things that go bump in the night.

Please don't go into long explanations; just a short reply so we don't end up listing all the details that should go into the Personal Encounters thread.

  • Interests:I'm interested in the paranormal. Just not enough to go out and do any investigations. I think my past experiences might have frightened me away from looking for what might come next. I can read what others go threw and it seems exciting. But I just don't have it in me to get up and do any investigations. Pretty silly I know. But it's who I am. I'm a watcher not a doer. That's ok with me, I dont' mind it. I feel safe this way. lol

I was always curious how the paranormal could do that. How is it possible to move things, or do things that scare the bajesus out of a person.

I have always been a fan of the spooky, Halloween has been my fav holiday since I was, like two. What really got me hooked on ghosts was working nights in a nursing home and hearing great stories and having a few encounters of my own.

Wow, I have never thought of this one before.. when did it all start? I think it has alot to do with the fact that I have grown up with stories of the supernatural and speaking with the spirits, of dreams and their meanings and family spirit guides so it was never a question of disbelieving it was more of a searching for others who shared the belief in a world that demands scientific and rational proof of existence.

I have always loved a good horror film, book, ghost story, exorcisms, angels and demons and the rest.. its just so fascinating to me which is why GV is such a great place to be. :headbang:

I sometimes wonder though about others who say they dont believe.. is it because they are closed to the signs or do some people just not sense the 'others' so to speak? strange how that is..

I read my first ghost book when I was in grade two, and have been intrigued by it since, and I am now 26.

For me, it was a vampire book I read when I was 4 or so. For some weird reason, I had an affinity to vampires since I can remember. And more over, the "para"normal was quite normal in the culture I grew up.

  • Interests:I love to sleep!!! I also enjoy reading, some of my favorite authors would be Stephen King, Anne Rice, and Edgar Allen Poe. My favorite tv shows are Ghost Hunters, America's Most Haunted, I Shouldn't be Alive, anything on the Discovery Health Channel, Myth Busters, Desperate Houswives, Grey's Anatomy, House, American Idol, Trading Spouses, The Simpsons, Family Guy, King of the Hill. But I obviously don't watch any tv. I also enjoy making new, pretty medic alert braclets, and earrings.

Honestly don't know why...
I remember my dad telling "stories" of him and his friends conjuring up Walt Disney as teens and getting spooked to death... but I honestly don't think that is *really* what sparked the interest in me... I think some of it just has to do with being sick and stuck at home (found GV by randomly googling different subjects...)...
Love life.

We have lived in many places that odd things have happened and my mom has always believed so it has just been something that we both believe in.

When I was 4, I heard a "big voice" say something to me. I looked up, & said "what?", then nothing afterward. I was alone playing on my grandmother's porch & no one was in the vicinity of where I was. Even still, they wouldn't sound like the voice I heard.
I still wish I knew what was said!!

Got my interest from my Mama and my Grandma. They both saw the ghost of a Conferderate soldier, in Arkansas, and loved telling the story. The ghost was apparently very sad and tired and a full apparition.

Raised in a family where 'people with abilities' was the rule instead of the exception from both sides of the family so the paranormal was pretty much business as usual. Rather a rude shock to grow up, move out on my own and find out that not everyone was open, much less accepting of the paranormal.

As for me, it all started when I was a teenager. During summer vacation I showed up at my friend's house after I had lunch with my grandma and my friend had other friends over. They were all in the basement using a ouija board. I had never seen a ouija board and when they explained it to me, I was laughing and joking because I did not believe in ghosts. So many things happened after that, and I was a believer. This spirit they contacted was for real, and he did not like me. He stuck around and basically followed me home, stayed there and created havoc. After that, I had a real interest in the paranormal, and so many things still happen to me this day.

Many odd things have happened to me since i was a child, i always used to wonder about things that could not be explained, and i could always see energy, and auras. So i guess thats what started my interest. :)

I've always heard and seen things that most don't. I have also had an extreme amount of deja vu and dreams that seem to come true.
