I am planning a trip to norwich state hospital before it gets torn down, but i would like to get a map of the tunnel system in order to find my way around better. i have been before, but it gets confusing with the tunnels; some are blocked off and others aren't. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm moving this up to Haunted Dwellings as it deals with one specific building as opposed to a list of buildings in an area. :whee:

This should provide you all the latest info on the fate of Norwich State Hospital. Again, I don't recommend going. It's unsafe and you will most likely be arrested for tresspassing, or escorted off the grounds at the very least. But good luck.

Been there and got caught by security. We went with a couple untrustworthy people that told us that they had been there NUMEROUS times and that there was absolutely no security or police watch. Well....after about 30 mins., lo and behold....SECURITY :)
They almost had us arrested, but ended up letting us go with a warning "never to return" and we haven't been back since. That was about 5 yrs. ago. They even took down our license plates. So BEWARE!!! :)

Looks like, for now, it won't be getting torn down. Just saw on the news that the company that wanted to build the facility missed their deadline after having been granted at least one extension, so talks for Utopia are over.

This is from this am, but they did not meet their deadline.

Guess I was wrong. This isn't over yet!

One selling point of the Utopia proposal has long been how it would create the third leg of an entertainment triangle with the two casinos -- and bring thousands of new visitors a day.

While an industry expert lends credibility to that perspective, a local tourism leader said families going to Utopia won't also visit Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resort Casino.

Preston property owners will vote May 23 on the Utopia plan. The Board of Selectmen voted Wednesday to give voters that voice after the town's advisory committee narrowly decided to recommend the plan to selectmen.

Whatever you do, be safe and do it legally.

Maybe if you were to bribe the guard with a basket of goodies, you might get a guided tour. Been there, done that. Working security can be one of the most boring jobs in the world at times, and on more than one occasion I gave tours to persons who asked questions about the history of the building where I worked just to break the monotony.

Better yet, rat girl posted a link to a really cool site you should visit. The webmaster is a total freak about derelict buildings and has taken hundreds of pictures in abandoned schools, hospitals and power plants, and then he gives each one these really artsy sounding names, e.g.Cool, Rusting Chair, Dry Rot. It's both funny and saddening at the same time. You can go straight to the Norwich State Hospital site from here:

Security there is a bit tight...

If you are heard or seen in any of the buildings security will come in and detain you untill the police arrive... same goes with tunnels.
There are workers in a few of the buildings now, and I wouldn't reccomend going in at night because there are little boards there.

Don't park at the commuter station anymore either.

That's good advice from Earth Spirit. GV will never condone tresspassing or Breaking and entering. If a place is off limits, it's usually for a good reason.

Safe Hunting everybody.

And reverent men and women from afar, and generations that know us not and that we know not of, heart-drawn to where and by whom great things were suffered and done for them, shall come to this deathless field, to ponder and dream; and lo!
