Hi,

 

I've been reflecting on the myths of slenderman and ancient races of giant humans.

 

People have claimed to see slenderman, even though the guy who originally posted a picture of slenderman that he later said he had faked.

 

Even though some say the idea of an ancient race giant humans is all myth, you can still see extremely tall humans in different races. These people are often plagued with health problems.

 

I'd like to speculate that if there was an ancient race of such huge people, then perhaps they died out for the most part because of genetic, environmental and/or disease-related problems. When they originated, there may have been geophysical conditions that allowed them to prosper. When these conditions started to go away, they could have sickened and mostly died off, while smaller races of people could do just fine.

The fact that no actual race of giants survives of course does not preclude that one may have existed in the past.  However the giant humans of today and even of past recent history have as stated had other health issues and generally a short life span.  I would suspect this is because the giants of today's humans are not true giants, rather they are humans with some abnormality that manifests itself as giantism.   As an abnomality it is also quite possible other genetic issues may also be present, some of which lead to the health issues.

 

Regarding a subspecies of giants from the past it should be noted that where large animals are the norm, i.e. elephants, whales, even dinosaurs of the past, size itself does not seem to be an issue with the relative health of the animal.  Consider how many years (millions) these species have survived and in some cases still do.    For comparison, consider how few years humans (or our ancestors) have existd compared to the age when dinosaurs walked the earth.  Clearly they had no problems even with their size.

 

It is quit possible a branch of "human" also broke off and for what ever reasons was unable to remain viable.   These could have been the basis for the giants in history.  Or possibly the reproductive cycle itself bred them out of existence, for instance, is giantism a recessive trait?  If so the giants may still be among us, only after a few generations they simply melted back into the dominate human tree.

If there were times of famine, then races of large creatures would weaken and die out, and the smaller species would at least survive longer and eventually prosper when the sitution improved.

 

i agree in the enormous time span of this planet, there is plenty of time for creatures to evolve.

 

In ancient documents, there are records that some interpret as proof that there were alien visitors at different points in the history of earth. Could there have been some cross-breeding with humanoids? The differences in different races and body types, ie giants and midgets, might be attributed to different alien race cross breeding incidents.

Blaming things on fictional computer game persona reminds me of back in the early 80's when they were blaming everything on Dungeons and Dragons.....

There is a theory floating around that these "giants" were Sapiens-Neanderthal or Heidelbergensis hybrids

Slenderman himself is the creation of a poster on the SomethingAwful forums, they regularly do a photoshot competition, this one was for creepy pictures or something along those lines.  Forum members loved it so much, it was the winner and they began creating a backstory around him, it made it's way to CreepyPasta, and I think some creative people began to develop videos and stories with Slenderman.

 

This is not to say that Slenderman doesn't exist at all though!    It's entirely possible that this fictional creation has become a Tupla or Thought Form.

Indeed. I've always thought of Slenderman as basically being art, then turned into somewhat of an entity.

 

The whole Slenderman thing went way out of control for two young girls in WI, that's for sure.

 

The artwork/photos are cool, though.

I've read quite a few things on this over the years. It has always seemed to creep me out a little bit. Now they had a movie come out in the theaters a couple weeks ago. I think I will have to check it out.
