The Rock County Historical Society invites you to visit the Oak Hill Cemetery on October 9th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Joel Van Haaften, executive director of the Rock County Historical Society, will be talking about gravestone markings and their symbolism. Come out and see why a grave marked with a broken chain, an arrow, a beehive, a shock of wheat, or a dove used to mean to the survivors of a family member entered in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Gravestone rubbings will be carried out during the tour and the public will be offered the opportunity to divine graves with divining rods, sometimes referred to grave witching. The Southern Wisconsin Paranormal Research Group will talk about area ghost legends and its involvement in their research and documentation, including a story on the Oak Hill Cemetery. This tour is offered free to the public. For more information call: 608-756-4509.
