We are going to be at -35c this afternoon which is -31f! They say half of Canada will be under this deep freeze. Not nice. Guess I'm not going out to take pictures tonight.

If my phone is correct it is -41c outside! Way too cold. One of the women that works here lives by us and is giving us a ride home.

Yep, at those temps every time you breathe it feels like someone is stabbing your lungs with knifes made of ice.....

But Canadians are tough, right? At least that's what they keep telling us.  :)

Cathy - Right about now, I'd take that, grumpy knee and all!

W - I hear ya on that. Made the mistake of going out to take the flag in sans my heavy duty work coat twice this week here... Needless to say, I hustled through that!

Logan - So far, I've been lucky to avoid that. I usually take breaks from it every... Half hour to forty five minutes or so when I do long stretches of it on the weekends. And I'm usually reading stuff on the computer when I'm doing it at home after work, so I wind up taking mini breaks to scroll, type, or change pages.

Think it's what's making our winters so darned miserable the last couple years! I swear, if I could turn my wool into proper insulation, I would most days...

Think it's what's making our winters so darned miserable the last couple years! I swear, if I could turn my wool into proper insulation, I would most days...

Actually wool is a pretty good insulator even when wet. If it's raw wool with the lanolin still in it it is very water proof but a bit smelly. :)

Up through the 80's and even the early 90's we were issued brand new, out of the box winter gear made in 1945 so I got to use a lot of woolen clothes in bad weather. We were even issued sheepskin liners and wolf fur fringed, wool lined hoods for our parkas. Heavy but cut the wind out completely. Unlike the synthetic stuff they issue now.

The prized bit of kit we all wanted was called a Max-Nix coat. You took two army wool blankets and a heavy rubber rain Poncho to a seamstress down town and she made a hooded, fully wool lined, water-proof, double breasted, 3/4 length trench coat with belt. With our calf-high black rubber boots it made you look like something out of the first world war but the were great in bad weather.

Since I was in Tanks and couldn't wear something that long we had them made out of the shorter army rain jackets and trousers.

Soldiers used to always modify their kit. My Dad had hooks and eyes sewed into his Ike Jackets and dress trousers during the Korean War so that when they were hooked together the outfit became a pair of overalls. He did this so that he didn't have to constantly pull his jacket back down after sitting someplace. A real problem with the Ike Jacket.

He was a first sergeant so he could get away with it..... :D
