"I am the scion of evil incarnate...The unrepentant rebel son of the lord of damnation, torment and ruin! I make mockeries of the hordes of hell...and spit in the eye of the devil himself!"

- Daimon Hellstorm

Adepts of the Greater and Lesser Arts of Magick will be familiar with the practice of using even fictional concepts as archetypes in thought and ritual. One of my personal favorites among such characters is an old Marvel Comics superhero known as Daimon Hellstrom, or Hellstorm.

Hellstrom got his start in the 1970s CE. in _Marvel Spotlight_, and later moved on to his own series, _Son of Satan_. Yes, Hellstrom's father was the Devil himself. Unhappy with knowledge of this, he sets out to destroy his Father and become a hero, but still makes use of his inborn Satanic powers. Meanwhile, back in Hell, his father is feeling rather betrayed and begins plotting ways to kill his Son.

Daimon Hellstrom also appeared in the superhero team series _The Defenders_ and the _West Coast Avengers_.

In the early-to-mid 1990s CE Marvel released another series featuring Daimon called _Hellstorm: Prince of Lies_. Throughout this series Hellstorm takes on all sorts of demonic creatures sent by his Father and other nobles of Hell. His wife Patsy (formerly the superheroine Hellcat) has gone insane from seeing her husband in his true, hellish form. Eventually she dies, and starts talking to Daimon from Hell via Electronic Voice Phenomena. In one issue Hellstorm even managed to take escapees from Hell and break them into Heaven. After watching these people being absorbed into one conciousness with no personality of their own, Daimon condemned Heaven for destroying individuality. In the climax of the series Daimon destroys his father and takes the Black Halo as Ruler of Hell for himself!

The character of Daimon Hellstrom manages to capture the spirit of the Kabbalistic idea of using the powers usually called "evil" to bring about Justice. Also, who is to say what dark prophecies concerning the coming a of a certain real-life occult investigator may be found within these tales? To some, it may soon be revealed.

Long Live HELLSTORM!!!
