My husband and I just recently purchased a home. There have been 2 other owners of this home. The first owner bought the house in 1959 and raised 4 girls, then passed away in 2008 in the home. The home was then sold in 2009 to someone who couldn't afford it and subsequently lost the home in 2013-2014. The 2nd owner also happened to be a drug addict of some sort (according to neighbors and paraphernalia we found hidden in the basement.
According to a neighbor who knew the original owner since 1964 when the neighbor moved in - the original owner took great pride in the house and it's upkeep. The 2nd owner let the house get run down and did not take good care of it.
We have been doing some renovations including ripping up nasty old stained carpet to find beautiful hardwood, fresh coats of paint and plaster repair where necessary. We completely gutted the bathroom from a cheap remodel that was done at some point and we mostly gutted the kitchen and installed new cabinets and flooring in there.
During all of this there have been random times that I've caught scents in the air. It's usually a cinnamony type scent, but sometimes it's mens cologne. It's not like I smell Cinnamon in the kitchen and men's cologne in the bathroom though. I was in the basement spray painting register covers and the smell of cinnamon suddenly hit me. Others near me don't ever smell it though.
I contend it's the original owner coming to show his approval of the work we're doing to the house - my husband thinks I'm crazy though. I'm just hoping someone on here will take my side
