There is something on my mind tonight, and that is past lives. Some believe, some don't, some never think about the myriad possibilities. Why do we find the accountant in New Jersey that is rabidly attracted to the Civil War? Why do we find the housewife, doing her dishes at the sink, daydreaming about being on a Scottish battlefield? I find myself attracted like a moth to a flame to certain cultures and time periods, yet others leave me cold and disinterested. Why do some children come into this world talking about their husbands/wives/children? Why do some people go to places they have never been before and can describe perfectly the rooms in a cerain house, or find their way around a strange place with ease? I wonder, if we asked our children when they are young, what they were before they came here, what they would say? I have a roommate who is a Civil War fanatic (she worked on a shoot about it in Richmond, Va.), yet I yawn when I even think about it. But when anything about Egypt comes on tv, I am GLUED to it. I am also particularly attracted to the Middle East, and the first time I watched Braveheart, well, I can't even begin to describe the feeling. I had an awful nightmare one night about going down on the bridge of the Titanic; again, it is an event in history I am incredibly attracted to. I feel like if I went to see that traveling display about the Titanic, I would just sit down in the floor and bawl like a baby. So, how do you feel about past lives?

p.s. through regression and readings, I have been told I was a high-ranking soldier in many lives, a black-irish healer, a judge, an executioner (electric chair), a witch, and an Atlantean. I don't know about that last one, but the others I am definitely feeling and it explained a lot of my obsessions to me.

I personally believe in them, I would just like to know what others think/feel about it; if other members are particularly attracted to certain times or areas. If other members have had regressions done, or a particular experience while viewing movies about history or reading about historical things. I would like to hear comments, pro or con, about the subject.

I believe in past lives! I remember reading a book once (dont ask me what the title was etc, i cant remember) It was about past lives and experiences people had. There was a boy i was reading about, he was from one tribe and would talk about his 'other' family in another area/tribe. He described the family , where they lived etc. Eventually the writer took this boy to the area and he found the house and the family, they recognised the boy. They said he looked like their lost loved one who had died years before. So do we carry on similiar physical appearance or was it somthing in his eyes?...

Sometimes you look at a baby , and for some unknown reason think, that baby looks like a wise old soul...he/she's been here before! When i lost a baby, several people said that to me, he looked like an old soul. Weird. I believe DeJaVu has a lot to do with past lives also. Intense fears also play a part i think. I have a fear of big ships and deep water...I think i actually went down on the titanic also! Well...thats what i say, its the only ship iknow the name of, i dont care to know anything about them lol... I actually think i was run over by a ship and drowned or somthing. I hate looking up at a large ship, gives me the heebie geebies. I hate deep water that you cant see through, If i cant see whats under me i HATE it! I'm always worried somthings going to come up and grab my leg or somthing. Thats pretty much my only fears, they arent extremely intense, but still not comfortable. In saying all that, there is NO reason for me to fear these things, nothing in this life time has contributed to the fact.

Okay, now I don't want anyone thinking that I am wierd here since you guys brought this subject up, but I do kinda believe within the past life theory. My family heritage is mainly Hungarian with some german thrown in somewhere. As I was growing up and started to learn to read I was really drawn to the greek/ roman mythology life and history books. When I started middle school I was excited over taking latin (no, not because I was a geek!!) but I was really drawn to this lifestyle. I followed through with high school as well. Now the other weird thing is I am the only one in my family who has naturally curley hair (and it's really curley) and I'm darker complected and I'm short. I cannot tell you how many times I have been asked if I am Italian! The only place I want to ever visit in this world is Rome, only because I have studied it so intensely. (Well, that and I'd like to take Dave to Scotland for his heritage and visit the haunted castles...hehe) It's kinda odd my daughters look nothing like me...even for as curley as my hair is, all 3 of them have completely straight hair like the rest of my family. I cannot explain why I feel so drawn to Italy and I wonder if it was because of a past life? I do have a fear of lakes and oceans, but I toss that off to jaws movies...haha, but maybe it is something more. Dave thinks past lives are all hog wash, but I don't know....what do you think? Julie

It sounds to me as though you had [U]something to do with Rome, as though you are intensely attracted to it. I feel that way about Scotland, Morocco, and Egypt. I would be interested to know how Rome affects you if you are able to go! What if you got there, and everything felt familiar to you? Would you want to stay?

Im not for sure what I really think of past lives....But I think we all can agree that sometimes we are drawn towards certain things that can leave us kinda clueless why.....?


Africa calls to me....And Im not african...Im not even african american...But theres something about Africa....My house is done in African art and sculptures...I feel warm with it in the house...And something about rainforest.....? And water...The ocean..I am very comfortable with the ocean...I never grew up by it...But you would swear that I did how I can swim in it......


Maybe these are just things that comfort me.....Or maybe something more?

I am on the fence about this one. I want to believe in it but as with anything paranormal there is just such a lack of evidence and perhaps no way we can ever really prove in them.

Simmy....we may have something in common...I am completely obsessed with the Titanic and joke that I went down with it as well. I also have a huge phobia about deep water...anything deeper than my head is considered deep water even if it is only 1 inch above my head. However, I also love all things nautical. I love lighthouses, nautical decorations, would love to live with a view of the ocean, I love collecting shells...etc. So, I have often joked that I was a pirate or sailor that went down with his ship.

I also have a fascination with Jack the Ripper and had a dream one night that I was one of the victims. So, is it possible? Or did I dream it because I had just read a book about him not too long before. And with Titanic..my great-grandfather loved to read and was fascinated with the Titanic and he died before I was born, so maybe I am not re-incarnated from a Titanic passenger but from my g-grandfather.

But, I also beleive that sometimes we WANT to believe so much that we will take any like or dislike and say it is from a past life. Just because I am interested in Irish culture and you in Chinese does not mean we came from past lives. We all are unique people with different tasts and are going to be drawn to different things. I love babgpipe music, but just becuase I heard it on a CD once and fell in love. I didn't pick one up and play it when I was 2, I don't have memories from listening to it...I don't think I am from a Scottish heritage in a past life. I just like the haunting sounds a bagpipe makes.

So, basically, I liek the idea of believing but also our fears and extreme likes might just be our personality.

I enjoy these past life threads, as people always come up with such interesting things about how certain times in history seem to call to them. I'm usually skeptical when I hear someone tell me they were some historical figure or person of great wealth and power in a past life, but when someone tells me they were a fisherman or a serving wench in a previous incarnation, then I start to listen.

I've been fortunate to have undergone two past life regressions (PLR) under hypnosis and also attended a class on PLR given by Anne Middleton, a noted regressionist in Colorado. In the class I was told by another student who was regressing me that I was a Blackfoot Indian who lived in the early 1800's. The description she gave of me in that life was almost exactly like the painting done by the Swiss painter, Karl Bodmer, of the Mandan chief Four Bears--a painting that fascinated me as a child whenever I saw it in my Golden Book of Indians. The woman doing the regression also described me in that life as looking like Mel Gibson in Braveheart with my face painted in different colors. Here's a copy of Bodmer's painting:



Note the painted face. This particular portrait was done in 1834, so it could easily fit within the timeline of my PLR. I also did some research and discovered that both the Mandan and the Blackfoot tribes lived in close vicinity of each other (mainly in western Montana.) Maybe that would explain why I left a high paying job with MCI in Denver and moved to North Idaho on whim. All I can say is that I've literally traveled to the four corners of the earth and have never felt more comfortable living anywhere as much as I have here. Perhaps it's because I've finally come home . . .

little_light, I know what you mean. I used to travel extensively to Kenya and fell in love with the place! There was something about it that was so familiar, like I was back home again whenever the landing gear touched down at the airport in Nairobi.

juliet_keller, I took Latin my freshman year in high school and just loved it! I'll never forget the time I was taking a weekly quiz and the end of the test there was a bonus question where you had to fill in the blanks on a time line with 15 different events in Roman history. Of course, I had no idea what the correct answers were, so I just randomly filled in the blanks hoping I'd get one or two right for extra credit. Imagine my surprise when I got my test back and discovered I had filled in the blanks in correct chronological order--all 15 of them! What are the odds of that happening? I guess it would be easy if I'd lived during that time

bathory313, I relived a past life as a Roman centurion in Carthage under Scipo Africanus during my second PLR under hypnosis. Maybe we were stationed together

Asked if I were to go and visit if I were to stay...nope! I have my family now....even if I did happen to find familiarity, traits and or family roots. My family is here now. My purpose and sense in life is here for my children now. But there is just that strong urge to visit there for maybe two weeks, so I would not ever go until my daughters are grown and on their own. I would love to be given the chance like you have earth_spirit to be put under hypnosis. I watched it be done at a comedy club...but that's another story...hahaha! I don't think that I was anything special within my past life, lord knows I hope I wasn't a man!! But enough about what I think about my past life. I have read up on a storie but I can't recall where and when about some child being born with a birth mark across his back and ever since the age that he could remember his dream he remembered fighting and dieing in a prior war not in his time by being shot in his back in the same exact spot where his birthmark was, he even remembered his name through his dream of the soldier he was. Well, his family was able to trace all this back and found out this all was true. So, it was all self evident that this kid could have actually have been this person in his past live. I have heard more stories like this as well...have any of you? Or have you heard about Mozart or Beethoven on why they were so gifted at such a young age that they must have learned their music in a prior former life? Julie

Sylvia Browne talks about this very subject: she says a prominent birthmark is usually our bodies' memory of a fatal wound......my ex had a perfect, arrow shaped mark on his thigh, it was black, and stippled looking, the way a tatoo will look sometimes when it's 30 years old or more. He said it was a birthmark, but we never explored it. The one time I regressed him, he felt he was in a German forest, with a thatched-roof house (a very rudimentary dwelling as he described it). He said he was dressed in skins and had skins on his feet; and that he was very scared because something was coming out of the forest (men on horseback) and he was protecting his wife and children. He described having some sort of pitchfork in his hands, waiting for the men to come closer. He never let me regress him again, because I guess it brought up old stuff............even though I instructed him to release that fear and not carry it into this life. It was very detailed, though.

I haven't looked to much into it, but I get the feeling that I was a German soldier in world war I, due a dream I've had several times a year since I was very young. The dream is always the same-- I'm running down a trench, and I can smell smoke and dirt and rot and hear screaming and explosions and whizzing over my head (presumably bullets). I get down to the end of the trench and I see men falling over left and right and suddenly I hear a tremendous whistling and a green trail and then I feel an intense pain in my lower left side and I am on the gound looking up, yelling "Medizar" over and over again, and then I wake up. I've had the same exact dream since I was maybe 4 or 5, and I only recently decided to figure out what "medizar" meant. (It made sense to me in the dream, yet not upon waking). Medizar means "Medic" in German.. I think it was WWI because of the rifles being used, and the condition of the trenches, and also the uniforms.

Wow, that's quite an experience! I've had a dream about Germany also, but mine is a bit different.........I dreamed I was a Jewish man, short in stature. I could see the clothes I had on, and I had my daughter with me (I have no children). She was about 14, I was about late forties or early fifties. I had curly dark hair, balding on top. We were in our old house, looking for papers we'd hidden under the floorboards (my wife and other children had already been taken by the SS), and while we were there looking, the Nazi soldiers found us there, then I woke up. I don't know if I just stumbled into someone else's memory, or if it was mine, but the man in my dream felt like "me", I saw everything from his point of view. I'm just starting to realize through these posts that I have very strange dreams.....
