Security Guard Fired for Seeing Ghosts
Information from: The Des Moines Register

1 hour, 5 minutes ago

DES MOINES, Iowa - A judge ruled that a former security guard who was fired for seeing ghosts cannot be denied unemployment benefits.

According to a court ruling released this week, the former guard's allegation of apparitions does not constitute misconduct.

The issue started on Sept. 11, when Wade Gallegos alerted his supervisor at Neighborhood Patrol of Urbandale that ghosts were haunting a neighborhood he was guarding.

The supervisor arrived at the scene, where Gallegos showed him where the ghosts were still apparently standing.

The supervisor claimed he saw nothing and fired Gallegos five hours later.

The company found no signs of drug use or alcohol.

Neighborhood Patrol challenged Gallegos' application for unemployment benefits, arguing he was guilty of misconduct.

"Such beliefs do render the claimant unfit to act as a security guard," Judge G. Ken Renegar ruled. "The employer cannot have security guards who see ghosts and apparitions and inform the employer, and then the employer sends out the patrol cars."

However, the judge ruled, seeing ghosts is not the type of misconduct that can disqualify Gallegos from receiving benefits.
Who owns the land? Only the land knows. We mortals are passersby, and our lives are but a brief moment in the great span of time and space. We are born, we live out our lives, and most of us do the best we can with it, but the wind is forever, and the rivers flow forever to the sea, and all the seasons of the weathers will come and go after we are gone. But the Earth endures, the Earth is eternal" - Earl Hamner

well living in Iowa I'm not to surprised this happend. It seems like people in this state are either to blind or ignorent to see the truth about spirits. Personally I would have gotten a laywer and sued the pants off of all of them! Thats a crying shame.

Oh Lord.... Good thing my company isn't like that - I'm always telling someone about my latest encounter. Course I've been here so long, maybe they think my job has finally driven me over the edge. Whirly Dude

They fired the guy because he saw a ghost? Heck, I once took a job as a security guard in a casino/hotel primarily because the place was known to be haunted by a previous owner and everyone who worked there knew it!

I just wish I'd spent more time investigating while I was working there. After all, I had free run of the entire place between 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM.

If you're curious, checkout my website for more details, or you can read about it on page 62 of The World's Most Haunted Places.

It kind of makes me think of the story I read about how a soldier saw the ghost of Ann Boleyn at the Tower of London. He fainted. His superior thought that he was drunk and reprimanded him. Other soldiers came forward and said that they, too had seen ghosts. In the Tower of London - could you imagine? :fight1:

I've heard about that story, I think the deal with his superiors thinking that was he had been found unconscious. I can't recall if he quit soon after the experience but if I do remember correctly he wasn't fired for it.

Just plain ridiculous the other guy was fired for what he saw. Even if he did get the benefits entitled him there honestly was no bonafide excuse to terminate his employment.

The Tower of London story is a little foggy (foggy - ha,ha, Tower of London) because it happened over 100 years ago, so there are different versions. I think the soldier got reprimanded. In this day and time, you would think that people would be a little bit more open-minded about spirits, but I have met a lot who are not. :ghost:

I can remember reading somewhere that a security guard in a museum in Paris, France swore he saw the Mummy walking from the Egyptian exhibition. As I recollect the guard feinted and was found on the floor by other guards as was the Mummy. Myth/true don't know, I just remember reading it in the Readers Digest or similar mag.

Didn't say they fired the guard though!

Anyway, hi to you all from Gt Britain :headbang:
