and there are certain "common sensical" steps that we all can adapt to. See, last day I got an eMail which claims to be from CitiBank. They had mentioned that my account was misused and was locked, and to open it back, they need my confirmation. Now, The FROM address was some crap, and the TO address was another crap (which means it was mass forwarded). If I were stupid enough to send the details - you can imagine the rest of the story. You dont need to be Bill Gates to work well with the computers. Imagine walking on a busy road, and what all steps would you adopt to keep yourself safe? (forget the FATE). Same approach can make the puter work well too!

You know Moon that is rather interesting about the CitiBank thing. I got the same one and I don't even have ANY ACCOUNTS, ANYWHERE. I found it rather humorous. I mean come on people, if you're gonna send out some BAD_WORD like that, at least send it to people who have a citibank account.

hahaha but CitiBank (and most banks) have secured systems, and THIS particular eMail of mine I use to for sending eCards and other such stuffs (means, they share the details or people hack in to their database and get the eMails for free). For my personal use I have other eMail accounts, which are secured enough - but not fool proof though. It could be that these people hack to the address books of suseptible users and then forward such eMails, and it is like a chain.

You know I think you are right about that. It sounds like something that would happen. I think it would be kinda cool to just sit back and watch some of these viruses run through everyones pc and see how many people open them and exactly what happens when they do. Hmmm maybe I should get into computer classes???

kat, if you don't mind my asking, what is the name of the files where your problem is??? I may be able to find a way for you to get to it. I had the same problem with 7 files, but after about 4 hrs of search I found a way to get to them.

you might be having the SASSER attack. may need to reinstall the OS. check the Microsoft Site, download the sasser detecting program, and try.

thanks. and another "moronic" opinion of mine - never install anything that is free! been there done that GOT BURNT! lol almost ALL the freewares keep the port open, and it is hackers day out with that kinda "open port" security. Perhaps even firewalls can't help.

Then obviously you didn't do the work, I run 2(yes 2) AV Programs Norton AV(not telling what year) and AVG Anti-Virus(which happens to be free). Here's the kicker Moon, AVG protects my system so much better the Norton does. I've had 3 virii try to attack and AVG has always caught them before they could do harm(It even detects an removes Sasser). I have faith in AVG and Spybot(and ZoneAlarm which helps me remember to keep Norton updated). I've had to clean pc's with 1000's of pieces of Spyware and am always being told that Spyware will always be on my pc and to use SB:S&D to keep it to a minimum(truth be told....it only finds 3 ad-ware cookies all the time and I usually empty the cookies once a week AFTER SpyBot).

What about starting the pc in safe mode? Can you find the file if you do it that way? Do you know what program the file might belong too?
