I've had 9 inguinal hernias over the years. A few were doubles. The first at the age of 6. They used an experimental Teflon coated wire to sew me up. The wire rusted and broke up in my belly. They were picking shrapnel out of me for a few years as the bits of wire worked themselves to the surface. The worst thing about those operations are when you are in recovery and you are ether all sewed up or stapled up and the pain is really starting to hit those idiots want you to cough to get the anesthesia out of your lungs! The adhesions are fun too. They have to put their hands on your intestines thus removing the slimy coat that lets them move across your abdominal wall. Every where they touched is now an adhesion point. You move and they don't until they pull loose. Lots of fun! In Short, I know what you are going through. :)

At least you picked the right time of year to look so creepy. All the best for swift, complete healing!

My four year old son has an umbilical hernia. I'm trying to figure out whether to have him go through surgery now or give it another year to see if it self heals. Hate the though tof a little one under general anesthesia but seems like it could get worse surgery/recovery-wise as he gets older. It doesn't bother him yet (not like it did when he was much smaller - that thing was huge).

They dont heal. The best you can do is just deal with it and be careful with it without surgery. With a 4 year old, its going to be hard.
