Instructions for Using Putfile.com

In the past you may have noticed a link at the bottom of the posting screen that said "Host your image with Imageshack." It was a great service because we didn't have to use our server to store the images.

Ghost Village switched that link to Putfile.com which does the same thing but they also host audio and video files. So we have a one-stop shop that will save us a lot of server room. Here are the size limits on the files that can be uploaded:

Images: .jpg .gif .png - 2mb
Video: .wmv .avi .mpg .mov .asf .asx .mp4 .3g2 - 10mb
Audio: .mp3 .mid .wav .midi - 10mb
Flash: .swf - 10mb

Users can now upload just about any file they want to share with our community.

People who register with Putfile.com for free get unlimited uploads and may participate directly with their forums :Spaz:

After uploading your media, it gives 3 code snipits:
* URL - which you'll use for video and audio
* BB - which includes the proper BB Code as used by this forum
* HTML - which you would use on a regular web site

If you uploaded audio or video, you may wish to edit the description inside the BB Code url tags. When I uploaded an audio file named Popcorn.mp3, the description says: Click here to watch Popcorn46.

Like all good sites PutFile.com has a FAQ.

Since I wasn't 100% sure that was sarcasm I detected, I will answer seriously. lol.

I don't believe many people have viewers for ORF (Olympus Raw Format). XnView, Paint Shop Pro and ACDSee can convert ORF to JPEG (JPG).

You are free to use other hosts if Putfile.com doesn't support your format; please be sure to specify which program is able to view your contribution in that case :)

PutFile asks for the following information when filling out a help request:

IP address (link will tell you your IP)
Link to file
File size
Filetype
Error message
Describe the problem that you are having.

If you wish, you can PM it to me or post it directly in the PutFile Help Forum.
