One day a servant girl accidentially pulled her hair while combing it. Elizabeth slapped the girl's hand so hard she drew blood. The girls blood fell into ELizabeth's hand and she immediately thought that her skin took on the freshness of her young maid. She believed that she had found the secret of eternal youth. Elizabeth had her major-domo and Thorko strip the maid and then cut her and drain her blood into a huge vat. Elizabeth bathed in it to beautify her entire body.

Link to the rest of her story.

Well, Kats, you certainly know how to get my attention!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My favorite Countess story: She would make a servant stand naked in the courtyard in the dead of winter, while she poured water on the poor devil standing below. The servant was forbidden to move or cry out...............with a bit of time, they turned into human ice sculptures.

"Chilling", yes?

When it was found out what she had been doing (murdering servant girls for their blood) she was walled up in her own castle for the last twelve years of her life. She died stark raving mad. :whoohoo:

Oh, on my home computer in my bookmarks I have a website for a guy descended from her in some manner (from a cousin of her's if I remember correctly) with some stunning photos of places she lived, plus he's working on an opera about her. I'll post that as well when I post the info for the book.

The website

What I find truely interesting is the underlying connotations of this particular historical case. Men against Women. Noble Families against Noble Families. Nobles against Peasants. Lutherism against Folk Beliefs.

It is the cover of a Cradle of Filth cd. The whole cd is about her. That cd is what got me interested in the story of Bathory. The name of the cd is :Cruelty and the Beast"

The book is a good read, I really love how he weaves alittle history into fiction. Another good book about her is The Bloody Countess: The Crimes of Elizabeth Bathory by Valentine Penrose
Either write things worth reading,
Or do things worth the writing.
