It's an interesting photo. The light around the anomalous light source resembles the corona surrounding the sun in the same picture. There also appear to be two beams of sunlight streaming through the trees, one of them hitting the ground at the location of the anomaly. These points argue for a "natural" origin of the phenomena.

However, the two light beams have produced two very different effects. One illuminates the greenery while the other seems to be a small sun sitting on the forest floor. If possible, a return trip might be in order. Look for a reflective object, a clear glass bottle for example. If nothing like that is found, I would be inclined to consider the photo anomalous.

Interesting! I have a similar shaped thing floating just above the ground outside some cemetary gates. They are the same colour as the dirt ground they are floating above by just centimetres. There was no wind that could stir up a little whirl wind thing. Some say reflection etc. But i dont understand that. Thats just interesting because of the colouring. I'm no expert on photography though so cannot tell you either way what it could be. I think you should keep snapping pics in the area if you 'feel' somthing there. Thats what happened to me wheni got my tree pic.

In the interest of inquiry, what sort of camera was used? I am used to the vagaries of a standard lens to some degree, but I am anxious to learn the promise and shortcomings of digital.

I use a Kodak EasyShare digital camera. No bottle or anything reflective there to my knowledge. It's very clean because it's national forest land. Thanks everyone for your input. I am enjoying being here. Happy New Year to all.

I have sat in my bedroom reading a book when I have seen tiny lights like fireflies go by my window, then come into my room thru the window with the window closed. My favorite Farie is the Brown one. He has wings that look like Oak Tree leaves and he is dressed in all brown. He has a beautiful smile all the time.
There is also a legend that near by Maryland there has always been a family of Little People. They are only the size of a 3 year old and very fast. I have not seen one of them but I have heard accounts about them from other people.

My father in law who comes from england....told me that there is a city out there, well more of a village, that actually has a bridge where you have to say something to the faeries that sit beneath it otherwise they will be a mischevious bunch and play tricks on you....from what I understand he drove through there in a cab and the cab driver did this and told him he should as well for fear of a prank lol...

I can ask him and find out more when I next see him, he is away on business but I will be sure to get the info

but i know she did a lot of research,

Hello!

I just took my daughter to see Spiderwick. Some of the fairies in there look like a couple we have seen in the garden. The bright light Fairies sometimes show up also.

Some might think its impossible and Fairies don't exist, but we did have stories of space travel before it became real.....

Thanks, Romie. It was a lot of fun to make the desktop fairy terrarium. I was inspired by pictures from Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Book (by Brian Froud and Terry Jones). Why squash fairies like a moldering butterfly collection? Keeping them trapped "alive" under glass is more fun.

My aunt told me that greatgrandfather made paper milk cartons into little fairy gardens. He used it like a planter box and filled it with moss and little flowers. The kids really enjoyed it. She also said that she found fairy rings on the farm and played with little people whom greatgrandmother could see too.

Granny gave us all leprechaun money one year. Really the coins were just tiny metal disks (about an eighth of an inch) with nothing on them. But it's amazing what kids will believe when grandparents tell the right stories.

I still believe in fairies and think I've seen them at a state park about 50 miles away. Interesting creatures. They come in all shapes and sizes and personalities.
