Or do things worth the writing.

HAROOOO!! I get to post the first poem.

Justa, as another poet, I think you should give some serious consideration to submitting to a Publisher, can give you a number of links<I'd suggest going for e/literary
'zines rather than the contests>

WOW...TY, the Black Watch has a long and proud history and I can see how your Grand Da would opt for mustering out rather than going to another regiment. BTW, WAY cool avatar ;D

Whytewatcher, 'twas beautiful

               Intersection
The Harley's engine hacked a cough,
shuddered violent protest,
a warhorse,
reigned in too suddenly

before the crash of bodies,
lances splintering
against plate and mail,
it grumbled at its idleness.

Gypsy eyes,
dark as starless skies,
rake imperiously
over twilit streets.

Her gaze pierces
the citified veneer,
a spear's challenging blow
upon an adversary's shield.

Shaking loose ebony strands,
spilling, a damask cascade,
lover's fingers down narrow waist,
she rides against the status quo.

Full crimson lips peel back,
a wolf's snarl of feral rage,
for black clad trendiness
lusting over opaque sunglasses.

Her ride roared to life,
shattering microcosm's silence,
the shout of victorious armies;
gone like vestiges of dream.

BTB, I think this is an awesome section to have...ty for allowing us to all express through this very profound medium.

CHRIST REDEFINED

Iíve knelt on my knees before
Cold that bathroom floor
Iíve had razorblades through my feet
Ruined a good pair of shoes

Though no crown of thorns Iíve borne
Shame still follows me every step across that grocery store
No sword, but hunger pains
Rams through my ribs

Stretched to the limit
Iíve touched those dark skies
While still bound on Earth
With Supermodels on both sides

Iíve tasted bitter vinegar
Nightly it seems
Old wounds sting best
When youíve lost all your dreams

Not the only one whoís lost everything
Not the only one whoís been strung up to scream
Iíve cast my lots, and Iíve pardoned sins
Iíve starved myself to save Peter, Paul and the rest of them

Iíve seen my mother cry
Forsaken by her child
And Iíve begged others
To teach her again how to smile

Sacrifice, Little Lamb
How sweet your blood must taste
To have everyone eager
To watch you face your lonely fate

So what does it matter
When after everything, they just walk away
Your cross not theirs to bear
Jesus ChristÖ
You got room for two up there?

I know that I just posted a poem, lol, so pray forgive me for posting another one so soon. I went back to the first part of this thread and after seeing so many that have been published through poetry.com, I couldn't resist the chance to share the one that I have that also was accepted. Anyhoo, sorry for being so greedy and I promise this is the last one (for today)! lol PS. Please excuse my French!

Independence Day

Celebrate with
Barbeque, watermelon
And explosives,
Exactly what our
Forefathers expected

Fireworks
Look pretty
Reflected in that
Cold glass of beer
Samuel Adams
Would have been proud

Flags aloft
That old red white and blue
But strangely
The only color
Americans like
Is green

Sparkles sparkle
Streamers crackle
And booming cannons
Remind us
What the price
Freedoms call for

So, seated on a blanket
The night stars dim,
Outshone by that old
American Spectacle
I sit and wonder
Why the fuc* do we still have to pay for parking?

I didn't even know there was a poetry thread. Thanks Shellas for directing me here. Wonderful stuff that I've read so far by the way. I've got three I'd like to share, but I'm afraid it might get a little monotonous, so I'll limit it to two. lol. I'll just jumble them all in one post here. Here goes.

Helen's Eyes

Love is a catastrophie
in the civilities of hellos and goodbyes,
wondering what went wrong in the go-between
in the holocaust of shared lives.
Coaxing a make-believe trust
from the ready-to-wear uniform of lies.

We had an establishment of faith,
secured by rent-a-cops asleep on the job.
Easy then to understand what went wrong
when you saw Helen's pretty eyes
crying,
trying to understand the dainty pleasures
of her good sob song,
dancing a degree of danger with legs
prettier than mine

Impossible to ignore you say.
So you boomerang from me to her
to me, begging for second chances
in this Bohemian bond.
The kids need a daddy you say,
so shut-mouthed I invite you back
needing bills to get paid
in this staid stigma of humiliation
placed on me.

And Helen's pretty eyes go unnoticed
in my apparitional victory
of having you back
when I didn't really want you,
idolizing an idea of love
in the poverty of practicality,
forgetting the prayer once found in crying eyes

AFTER

Bright happy happy greetings
in the scholastics of sex
after you rid yourself of lust
emptying yourself in the
morning-after routine of treating me
with respect
And I think to myself
I need a shower to peel away
your touch I still feel
But like the layers of an onion
there's always more underneath
So instead of the shower I opt
for a smoke
And the tasteless odor clouds
the sounds you make dressing
getting ready for work again
getting ready to walk away again
And I'm surprised I actually expected
something different

Hope to read more from all of you. I DO so love poetry.

WOW, Ana-banana, you GO, gurl! lol I've never read 'After' although I've always loved Helen's Eyes...goddess, if only others knew what you were REALLY talking about! lol Anyhoo, both of them were fantabulous, but I'm gonna post a request and have you add the one you sent me called 'Just Another Day'...I really think that's an awesome one.

But here's mine for today.

The Cubicle Lament

Blurry vision, stifled mind
Throbbing knee and just one dime
Left in right pocket
Oh, to be a scarlet rocket
And finally escape this time

Canít find the words today
Canít play the heroine in the fray
More a donkey then a steed
More a monkey then a pedigree
And all that comes out is a hoarse bray

Maybe itís what we see on MTV
Maybe itís all the stuff on QVC
Those things so rich and fine
Those things that keep smashing up our credit line
Oh and did I mention Iím getting that Honda CR-V??

Why do we throw ourselves on the pyre
Like flocks of nervous, newly hired
Itís such a shame
To play this game
To march our feet
To the corporate beat
But no one dares to make a peep
And shuffle along like sorry sheep
Cause itís all better than getting fired!

C'mon everybody! We need more poetry!!

Sorry, can't find Just Another Day. Can't find HALF of my poems to be honest. lol. I think I've got more of YOURS saved on my computer than I have of my own. If you find it, though, feel free to post it for me.
