Intellectualizing television? Not me, and not only paranormal shows. If I want intellectual television, I turn it off.

As for Most Haunted, we can agree to disagree. It's after all a choice whether to watch or not. I do watch the opening few minutes, as I said in this thread or some other, when they're presenting the history of the place but move to something else when their investigation begins.

When I want intellectual television I turn on Any Discovery or History station, which is on 85% of the time. :ghost:

I suppose 'intellectualizing' was the wrong word. :) What I was really meaning was that it was unreasonable to expect a tv show that's mostly about entertaining viewers interested in a particuar subjec (such as the Paranormal) to be largely based in the day to day reality of real life investigators. Only there's no one word that sums that up.

I agree with you on that point. I guess that's one reason why I like ghost hunters, scientificly, yep we see their day to day roto rooter business, (good advertising for that biz as well), and a few odd things. there are a total of 5 things on GH that I feel are authentic, will post it on the Ghost Hunters thread. :whoohoo:

Even though I haven't seen the show (Ghost Hunters) I have heard, and get the impression, that they are doing it the right way. And from viewing their website they seem to be a great bunch of guys who know what they're doing. Which is good because they're not making ghost investigators look silly. :headbang:

Agreed. Scooby Doo will probably make for better paranormal entertainment. While the medium on Most Haunted is interesting to watch ( regardless of his accuracy ), the little performances of screams gets old very fast. When something does happen, the camera is always pointed at them freaking out and not around the room. The audience is asked to believe them on blind faith.

Exactly.
Even when I thought the show was genuine, all the "Blair Witching" going on with the cameras drove me insane!
The cameras pointed at themselves was another thing. I'm not tuning in to watch "Most Faces".
If you have all this equipment for a show, put it in rooms, go downstairs and play poker, eventually get your equipment, edit the footage, show us what you found. I'd much rather an investigative report on the location than a funhouse.
However, I do understand this wouldn't make for a very good show: your average person wouldn't watch it.
This is why, when I hear people say, "We're getting our own show!", I think "Good luck with that...please, oh please, don't fake it." Shows like this (and there have been others) present to people that ghost research, is indeed, all about not-crossing-the-streams, Ecto1, and ghost traps.
And ghost research is not taken seriously, and we as researchers, are laughed at........ :( :)

I totally agree with you. I think if a place is genuinely haunted and I do believe most of the places MH goes may very well be..set up stationary cameras etc. in places where the most activity is said to be present..leave them there for a month or so since it does seem that activity doesn't always happen everyday or just at night then look at what you have and edit the film to show that..true research..I would love to see a show like that not listen to Yvette scream like a friggin banshee through the whole show..or run her mouth right after she says" did you hear that?"..She is either talking or screaming and why does she always want to leave right when things start happening..it makes me crazy as do Derek's possession's. I really like GH because if they didn't see anything or can't be sure they did..they say so..I watched Derek's Show once and that girl is just as obnoxious as Yvette and can't be taken seriously either...JMHO

I pretty much had it with Most Haunted. It's good is you want to make a list of places to visit in England (it is on the Travel Channel) but I'm tired of the cast. I no longer go out of my way to watch it. Theat's the beauty of T.V. You can change the channel.

It's mostly Derek though. He so full of it. I've seen reputable mediums in action. None act like him. But if people are entertained by it, then that's cool to.

It dosnt matter if Derek is a fraud or not, the guys a bloody genius. He's very entertaining (especially the possesion when Mary loved Dick...V.Funny) and every time you think this guys a total wind up merchant he seems to come out with something genuinely strange, making you think why did he say that for......weird.

I say if Derek is a fraud then good on him. He must have made x amount of 's by now and he should milk it for everything its worth while he can.

Nice one Del!!!! :P

LOL I have to agree with that point, there have been times when it has been very funny...Like the one when he was entered by the grocery man(aired here on Friday April 14th I think it was), ...he looks right at that woman who asked him something rather stupid..(don't recall right now, the impact of HIS response wiped out everything else).. and Says Are you DAFT WOMAN?? it was hillarious and obvious she wasn't expecting that. :P Maybe Deriks next move should be a composit of Deriks Most Hillarious Moments. IMO :)

Derek is no longer on Most Haunted. One of the recent Live shows was his last one. So now only repeat show have him on it. The switch takes place part way through Season 6.

The name of the new medium currently escapes me, but I like him muchly, and he works very well with David Wells, who I also like.

Derek does Ghost Towns now. It was on that show he was the grocery guy. The rapist thing though..ack...that even made my hubby (who is still keeping count) jump. LOL I actually do like it.

:P Yup, I know his new show, we have a thread here for it.

I was just pointing out to those who might have stopped watching MH because of Derek that he's not part of that show anymore.

Aren't the new Most Haunted Episodes taking place in America now? I caught the one about the ranch that was haunted by the spirit of that man and Native American Woman.

Derek is now in America, I just watched the show. I have tried and tried and tried and tried to watch him, but I just don't get it. Tonight is the last show I will ever watch of his. I just find him to be so fake. Never have I had such bad feelings about someone dealing with the paranormal as I have had with him. Just look at all of them on the show, no genuine feelings etc, and they never actually show any footage of anything paranormal. It is just like watching a drama club. It is too bad, because he really gets the opportunity to explore some great places.

My favorite tv shows are Ghost Hunters, America's Most Haunted, I Shouldn't be Alive, anything on the Discovery Health Channel, Myth Busters, Desperate Houswives, Grey's Anatomy, House, American Idol, Trading Spouses, The Simpsons, Family Guy, King of the Hill. But I obviously don't watch any tv. I also enjoy making new, pretty medic alert braclets, and earrings.

agreed... plus that it's on at the same time as "I Shouldn't be Alive" on the discovery channel. if you want chills down your spine watch that instead of "Most Haunted"
