So I decided to step things up. I wasn't being disiplined enough. I cutting down on carbs (not on Atkins, befor anyone screams at me. I know what I'm doing. low carb high protein, not no carb) and intensify the work outs a bit.

Well wouldn't ya know it! At the end of my workout yesterday I pull my lower back. I've never hurt my back while eightlifting before! Man getting old Sucks! It's nothig I won't bounce back from, but I have to be more careful in the future. I'm not 16 anymore!

Poor Duke. I hope you feel better soon!

I'm not a huge fan or believer in diets *the ones that dont let you have certain food or eliminates a type of food all together* moderation is definately the key to maintaining a healthy weight. Did anyone else see this woman on Oprah, she wrote the book "French Women Dont Get Fat"

The French Diet

I really think she has alot of good points, we dont eat for the pleasure of it...what astounded me about the show was the fact that gyms go out of bussiness in France because they simply arent needed!

Thanks Willow. The back is still tight but I got most of my range of motion back. Thank God I'm still young enoughto bounce back from this sort of thing. Also, I went and got a massage the day it happened. That helped a great deal.

As for the diet. It's more like the Boogie diet. I just remembered from back when I read body building mags, that if you want to build muscle and burn fat, then a high Protien, low carb diet works. But you MUST work out! You can't live on the 20 carbs a day that some diets allow. I merely stop have carbs at every meal. And that's tuff for an Italian/Lebanese. No pasta or Pita. But it worked before. And I felt great.

:wow: Woo Hoo! I dropped 5 lbs in my first week of low car high protien diet. And I only worked out 2 days cause of my back (which is almost back to normal). If I stay good my old pants should fit by July, or sooner.

Duke make sure you ice that lower back...don't add heat to it...I'm sure these words are coming late. Well, I wish I could join in on the exercise thread, but I got to tell you in my job, I know that I get more than plenty with all the lifting that is required along with walking the floor. My mom got me one of those pedometers for christmas the one day alone I was up to 4.7 miles from the time I started on the floor in my 8 hour shift. Normally I average though 3.8 miles in one shift and then coming home and running after 3 girls all evening and housework...ah, workout plan is complete. I do have to say it does work, I use to weigh (and yes I do admit this because I am proud of how I am now) after having Hannah 5 years ago, 210 lbs, Now for some that's fine, but for my little stature that didn't fit well, nor at that time did I feel very well. You tend to feel more tired and down. I got a good chuckle at work the other day, our housekeeping dept. and dept. heads actually hired in a hypnotist to come to our work for $50 a person to be hypnotized to lose weight. Well, I have one of those mouths that just blurts words out without thinking...I told them "If you guys are so worried, give me your $50 bucks and come work the floor nursing for one day, I fix your dilemma!" But Duke seriously, counting calories and carbs is a great way to go!! And words of encouragement go a long way! Keep up the good work and remain positive....stepping on the scale everyday is a positive reinforcement too...helps remind you not to eat the bad stuff!! Julie

I'm a gymnast, actually. As some of you may or may not know, I'm only 16, but don't hold that against me.

I'm a competitive level 8 gymnast. Last year, I was a level 9, but I fractured my 5th lumbar vertebra in my back, was in a brace for a few months, and was out of the sport for a while, and it set me back a bit. I wear a different brace now, on three out of four events (vault, beam, floor), and I do as much as I can. I train 15-20 hours a week. I also do an hour and a half of physical therapy once a week, and a half hour of massage therapy a few times a month. Sometimes my back hurts really bad, and I have to stop and ice, take some Advil, and go again. Basically, I have to work with what I have.

I do two sets of it. I was captain of my high school team this year, and I do that season (it's only about a little over a month long), and my regular team.

I love gymnastics, though. If I didn't love it, I wouldn't have worked so hard to return to the sport. My next and final meet of the season is level 8 regionals in Providence in May.

Sarah, That's a serious injury. Your lucky to be walking. But we are certainly glad you made through. Just take it easy (kind of). It's good to stay fit after an injury, and it sounds like you doing the right things to stay healthy. Best of Luck to you.

Ahh, yes. The technical term for it is spondololysis. Luckily, after 2 doctors who weren't very sympathetic towards my feelings about my sport, I saw a specialist, whom I really liked, and he set the guidlines of what I can and can't do, and explained the injury in more depth in terms I could understand.

Thanks for the positive imput :ghost:

The weather is just starting to get nice enough to get out and do the things I like. I've dropped 4 pounds and 2 inches off of my waist, and gone down one size in pants :P It's a slow start but it's a start.

I'm going to Dairy Queen to celebrate :D

LMAO Justa that's just what I did. I've noticed my clothes fitting bigger and fit into a pair of pants I haven't fit into in a VEERRRYY long time. So I sat down with a container of ice cream last night and had at it *Spoiled my dinner to LOL*. Back to the good stuff today though. No more ice cream for....oh a week? LOL.

I was stuck for about 3 weeks with the weight going no where. Stepped on the scale today and lost 1 lb. Doing a 24 hr fast then going back to the Special K diet to help kick myself back into gear since I do pretty good with that and lots of walking.

OK, that settles it. Angelina is now my official workout partner  20 minutes of working out, and then we'll go to DQ to celebrate how well we did :D

Masq, I absolutely hate that part... the part where no matter what you do or try, the darned scale won't move. But once it does, things start to happen. :D Don't give up or get frustrated.

Oh, and speaking of low carb diets... I did the southbeach diet last year. It worked really well. I lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks. The only problem was that I craved so many foods that I couldn't have, that at the end of the two weeks I just went back to eating what I wanted and I think I over indulged to make up for what I had missed out on. I managed to keep about 8 of the lbs off, and probably could have done better if I had stuck to the plan, but it was just torture.
