that looks good! i wish it was coming out sooner, like next weekend, my bd is on the 24th and that's the only way i could probably bet my parents to take me. however my little sister's bd is on may 6... maybe if i bribe her enough i could get her to pick that one for her birthday movie.

I had a hunch that was probably the story it was based off of because of the "There is only one case in the history of this country where a spirit caused the death of a human being.This event became the most documented haunting in American history" caption on the ad I found the site on.

Oh yeah! I didn't even think about the Bell Witch. Man I must be slipping. The old memory isn't what it used to be.

This should be a cool movie. I really like Donald Sutherland. He's good in most everything he dose.

It been awhile back but I did see some where that there was a movie in the works for the bell witch story. ooohhh!!! I can't wait to see the movie.

Hello my fellow Ghostvillagers,
I just watched the trailer for "An American Haunting" which I do believe is based on the Bell Witch. I'm really picky when it comes to paranormal films, but this one looks really good.

I hadn't heard of the story of the Bell Witch, and to my knowledge NO death has ever been caused by a spirit, which made me scoff when the trailer stated that this was the most documented spirit related case AND a death resulted in it.

I saw the movie tonight and, not only does the trailer outright lie, but the movie is nothing like it's portrayed in that 60 seconds of preview.

Very predictable and the ending really over explains itself.

Dammit, I was hoping this would be a good one.

According to every single story I've ever read regarding the Bell Witch, the Bell Witch itself claimed responsibility for the death of the Bell family patriarch (sorry, gentleman's name is escaping me right now). So in that sense, yes, the indication in the trailer insofar as this story is concerned is correct. And hairpin, are you telling me you've never once ever come across the most famous haunting in the United States, if not the world? It happened in Tennesse, and there's all kinds of info about it. Do a google on Bell Witch. It is one of the most documented tales I've seen, and yes, again, there is a death which the spirit itself claimed responsibility for. I'm also pretty sure there's a few Bell Witch threads in the forum as well.

Hmmm....actually, cause I got irritated on another forum elsewhere by a person who not only disrespects someone they are debating against, but loves to push total misinformation....I did the search myself to calm myself down and take my mind of that....so here's info on the Bell Witch haunted which this movie is based on.

In the movie, the "spirit" (this is not even the correct term, in reference to the movie) doesn't kill anyone. In the interest of not spoiling the movie for others, I won't go on further.

Ok, I admit to being confused between your two posts. See, I was responding to your statement that you had never heard of the Bell Witch case and that to your knowledge, no spirit has ever been responsible for a death. So, I gave you Bell Witch info.

Now it seems that what you truely had issue with was that the trailer indicated that the spirit killed Mr. Bell, and yet it didn't even happen in the movie. Which honestly, would annoy me too! If ya say something's going to happen in the movie, have it happen! Besides, in all the documented Bell Witch stories, the 'Witch' claimed responsibity for Mr. Bell's death (caused? Who knows.....), so if you are basing a movie on this, then you kinda need to include that.

I've been waiting months for this movie to come out!
I've had it reserved on netflix since october
