Love your house, Autumn! For the deck, you could go to the local thrift store, get an old flannel shirt, pants, and some work gloves, and boots, pin the pants, shirt, and gloves together, stuff them with newspaper, and sit your "headless man" in a chair. Wal-Mart has some cheap, scary, masks that you can stuff with paper and place in the lap and make it look like he's holding his head. Then, if you want to really scare people, on Halloween night, get someone to actually dress up in the outfit and sit motionless in the chair and suddenly "come to life" just as the trick-or-treaters are leaving.

My girls were trying on their costumes and Hannah is going as a bride this year, so Dave snapped this picture....it was suppose to be a cute picture, but I think it came out looking eerie....

Oh my gosh but that is a wonderful picture --- very appropriate for this time of year. No doubt she is usually cute as a button - but with that lighting, she looks very much like a ghost. Too fun.

I'm looking forward to my friends HUGE Halloween bash. Also this weekend a couple of friends and I are getting together to watch scary movies!! Scary movie marathon comprised of Halloween, Jason, Lifetime's new mini series "The Gathering" with Peter Gallagher (I love him) and Pet Cemetery!!! I can't wait.

Halloween is such a great time to see scary thrillers .. Pet Semetary is a classic!

Saw a commercial this morning for The Gathering .. and I must say, it does look a bit chilling. I'll make sure to record it tomorrow night!

And a really good thing about The Gathering is it marks the real hard-core beginning of stations playing their Halloween lineup --- more scary movies, more paranormal tv specials and shows (though luckily there seem to be more and more year round). And even the Halloween commercials seem to be cooler this year so far (I like the M&Ms/Headless Horseman one).

The local minor league baseball team in Salem converts their stadium into "The Field of Screams" every year. I've never been before but I think I'm going to go next Friday. It's only $10 to get in and if I bring a canned food product for the local food bank, they'll knock a dollar off the admission. This year, they've actually put in a maze in the basement of the stadium and it sounds like alot of fun!

For those of you in New England.... Hammond Castle in Gloucester MA does an incredible haunted castle called the Castle of the Damned. I went last year, it was the best ever and I am going again this year. Hammond Castle is eerie in the daytime, so picture what it is like at night. Remember, it is right on the ocean, so dress warmly. It is not for children at all, and they warn that. The tour is both indoors and outdoors on the grounds, it is the best I have been to and well worth the $12. You can find the info. online. Cornmazes are the fad too here. Sterling, Ma has a huge one and Lee, NH has a really good one, smaller...but in a more country quaint backroad location. If you go to the one in Lee, stop off at the Flagg Hill Winery, same road as cornmaze on route 155, interesting spot and they will give you lots of samples. Better to go after the maze than before, lol.
If you have never been to the Keene, NH Pumpkin Festival, you have to go, it is a must see. They hold the Guiness Book of Records for the most lit pumpkins, great to see during the daytime and even more at night. They have enormous towers filled with jack o lanterns and shelves loaded too all in the downtown. There is plenty of parking which makes it very convenient. After they announce the number of jack o lanterns, there is a huge fireworks display.

That castle is awesome and the jack-o-lantern display sounds beautiful!

I found out tonight that Dixie Caverns is doing their "Haunted Caverns" again this year. I went one time with the Wesley Foundation when I was in college and the girl behind me literally put fingernail marks in my arm! I might go again this year, maybe make a night of "Haunted" venues--first the caverns, then the "Field of Screams". I also found a place near here called Foggy Ridge Orchards (http://www.foggyridgecider.com) and they make their own "hard cider" so I might stop off there during the day. I want to get some pics of the Blue Ridge while the leaves are changing anyway.

I miss New England quite a bit - two of my favourite Halloweens were spent there. The most fun was helping out on a haunted ship in Bridgeport and then we went trick-or-treating in Vermont, plus all the hayrides and haunted houses and driving around looking at decorations.
