I found out about the 3am thing through the 'Exorcism of Emily Rose'. It's an interesting notion, just one I wouldnt really think much of -- as has been said (trying saying that 3 times fast!) who knows the exact time anymore?

ME TOO! I loved that movie as well. I am a 100% believer in the paranormal. Som people I know are skeptics and think i'm crazy. So far i have not expieriencened anything, but i'm hoping so i can prove to people that are really non human spirits out there.

In my most demonic experience 3:00 a.m was around that time. But things have happened to me all times of the night. That night was the first of many though.

A couple things here.. 3 a.m., as stated by several before, is supposedly the exact opposing time of Christ's death (3 p.m.). This hour is believed to have more demonic activity, not paranormal activity, due to its significance in the world of religion.

"But if we've changed time so much, it wouldn't matter anymore?" That's actually quite sad, really. Do you think that beings who've been around since the creation of time itself, would really be too ignorant to understand our primitive methods of Daylight Savings? Or that they would be opposed to using a time slot that man has created (the "witching hour") throughout stories over the years, to be more active? By the way, to whomever it was that stated this 3 a.m. thing is a new fad- there's nothing new about this theory. Just because shows like Paranormal State attempt to use things that shows like Ghost Hunters do not, doesn't mean it's new, and it also does not mean it's a scheme.

There are several possibilities to consider here.. Those of us involved in a Christian based, religious upbringing already know the story of Christ's crucifixion. We also know that anything directly opposing God (opposite of his will), is thought to be the work of Satan. Naturally, if 3 p.m. was a significant time for Christ, 3 a.m. would have been thought to be a significant time for Satan. Have we put this together to actually make it more than it really is? Quite possibly so, yes. Some experience things this hour, some don't.

Another possibility, 3 a.m. is when we finally start to fall into the deepest portion of our sleep cycle (this applies to some, not all, much like the phenomenon of 3 a.m.). Check out Konstantinos or The Dream Dudes for more information on this subject. In fact, many dream analysts have information regarding this, so just look around a little.

My answer? It's thought to represent demonic activity, not all paranormal activity as a whole. Using it to summon spirit communication every time you think you've got a haunting - naive. It wouldn't make any difference what time it is if the time holds no significance to the spirit. But I also think there is too much theory out there in the field right now to really make any solid decisions. More emphasis on the study of facts, like psychology and the like, would be of much more value than buying every book on ghosts that hits the shelf.. Just my two cents.

Personally, I believe that 3 a.m. is significant because after three light begins to return. Even if the sun doesn't come up until almost 7, the sky begins to get lighter at around 4 a.m..

Dream studies have shown that we have 4 periods of sleep as we go in waves from one state of consciousness to another throughout our sleep time. This would take the mystery out of 3 am. It is the end of one cycle of sleep.

I'm usually just getting ready to go to bed around 3 3:30am... I have Fibromyalgia with chronic fatigue syndrome and that gets my sleep schedule waaaaaaaaay off.

I don't see too many spirits around that time - for me it's during the day when it's really quiet around here as I'm working on things for my biz.

There must be some basis for this in myth or legend. I once had a crazed ex-girlfriend (a member of the ultra-intelligent group Mensa) who would call my phone at precisely 3:00 AM just to hear the sound of my voice and then hangup. I can only suspect it was her as I was unable to *69 the number since it was blocked--which, coincidentally, her number was too. Not only that, but she was the only person I knew who had any reason to call and wake me at that hour of the morning!

It just seemed strange that she would always call at precisely 3:00 AM--unless there was a particular significance to that time that she was trying to get across to me.

I figured the objective of her exercise was to both annoy and terrorize me without getting into trouble herself, so that was probably why she wouldn't identify herself. There were other things she did that made me almost 100% sure it was the same person calling. The fact that the calls always came at precisely 3:00 AM rather than random times made me believe that she was trying to emphasize the significance of that time.

I don't want to take the thread off topic, so let me just say that she never did anything when she harassed me that didn't have some sort of meaning to it. She was a very intelligent--and evil--woman.
