Elizabeth Taylor dead at 79

Elizabeth Taylor, the legendary actress famed for her beauty, her jet-set lifestyle, her charitable endeavors and her many marriages, has died, her publicist told CNN Wednesday. She was 79.

Taylor died "peacefully today in Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles," said a statement from her publicist. She was hospitalized six weeks ago with congestive heart failure, "a condition with which she had struggled for many years. Though she had recently suffered a number of complications, her condition had stabilized and it was hoped that she would be able to return home. Sadly, this was not to be."

Jeff Conaway succumbs to his disease, prescription drug addiction.

I hope this terrible loss will serve as a good lesson to people out there - just because it's prescribed, doesn't mean it's not addictive! Oxycotin is very, very dangerous and as an opiate, it's hard to get clean from it.

Man, we lost the real Matt Dillon - James Arness of Gunsmoke has died. He was 88. One of his earliest roles was that of the thing in The Thing in the 1950s. It was his huge size that got him that role. Later, his buddy, John Wayne, recommended him for Marshall Dillon when it went from a radio drama to a television one. I read once that he was very self conscious of his limp, remnants of being injured in the war, but the producers of the show convinced him it lent him credibility as a frontier law man, reasoning that Marshall Dillon would probably have been wounded in gunfights, etc. Bon voyage, Mr. Arness, you will be missed, yet fondly remembered!
