Ok, I am just going to toss a couple of ideas and comments in here.First off,to Miles.Yes,there is a story that pops up evey once and awhile about a ghost german U-boat out in Boston Harbor for one.
On the question of animal ghosts,I would just mention that there are plenty of "Ghost horses " in native american indian folk lore and at the tower of London,there has been a
phantom horse drawn carriage that has been seen and heard on occasion.Although I suppose the carriage could classified under the "transportation ghost theroy".

I had the link but its not good anymore it wasn't that far from where i live
