RustyBeerCan, our resident Ghostvillager at the Imperial Casino Hotel contacted me with some sad news yesterday and asked that I pass this along to everyone:

The Imperial Casino Hotel has closed as of 3/1/2010

As You might know the Imperial was in and out of bankruptcy a few times now
Another victim of the poor economy. 45 more people out of work from the Casino, Hotel, Restaurant, accounting office (including Me)

I'm told the owners had to walk away and let the bank take the property over.
All the buildings , parking lots Etc...........

It was a Pretty sad day. I loved working there, And the graveyard shifts overnight in the spooky old hotel.

What will the future hold for these historic buildings ?
What does George Long think ?

Hi, I saw a post from 'minnow' who said they might be long lost cousins of the long family. George Long was my great grandfather and I wondered how to get in touch - for some reason I can't send private messages!

Hi, eutters! Because of problems in the past, regular users can't sent private messages until they have at least 30 posts under their belts. I haven't heard from minnow in quite some time, but I can send a note on your behalf if like.

Coincidentally, minnow is not the only Long family member who's contacted me since I started this thread. What part of the world do you live in?

I'm actually a little sad hearing about this closing. I read about the close before moving to Colorado and really wanted to visit the place. My parent's love the mountains and I had the perfect excuse to take them somewhere haunted.

Shadowperson, I don't know exactly when the hotel is re-opening, but chances are that you'll once again be able to commune with the late Mr. Long in his last place of earthly residence very soon! The tourist season kicks off on Memorial Day weekend, so it should be soon.

I'm not sure if the casino is opening again. It may not because of the expense, e.g. gaming license.

I've also come across some additional information about the Long family from the 1930 U.S. census:

Click on the thumbnail that appears to increase the size. The Long family information starts at line 7. It was interesting to note that George Long listed himself in the census as an artist with his own studio and that Mrs. Long was the proprietress of the Imperial Hotel.

The 1940 US Census has been released, and the Long family is listed there at the Imperial again. I can post the information if anyone needs it.

The Imperial is open. Has been for awhile. I run The Gold Bar Room Theater. This weekend is our 1st aniversery down in the theater. The hotel and restuarant has been open a little longer. We have our own website for the theater it's self. www.goldbartheater.com I could tell a few stories myself about some "Strange" things that happen over the past year working in the Theater.
