From the way you describe it, your methods seem professional & sound.
You are wise to gaurd against leading the witness. It's the old scientific axiom that you can not study something without changing it. It is very easy for us humans to confabulate things, while being totaling convinced that we are remembering them accurately.
Thanks for taking time to explain what you do more fully. I am sure that they are a good model for others to emulate.
