I know this is a strange question. Let me explain.

Basically, if I was to purchase a very old Ouija Board (looks decades old, and is in bad condition, and has obviously been used before) is there a chance spirits can "follow" the Ouija if I was to bring it into my own home - or do spirits generally haunt people/places, rather than follow a board that they "came through" on?

I hope this makes sense.

I was tempted to buy an antique board, somebody said they'd used it and weird things happened. I'm curious to try but don't want anything the previous user brought out following into my own home... !

No, I do not think they can be haunted. I know there are people out there who say that ouija boards are bad mojo, but I have never had anything bad happen to me, ever. Nor have bad things happened to the other people I've used them with.

I imagine it's all a matter of personal preference, but I would have no qualms about a beautiful one being in my home. ;)

Paintings, dolls and other objects can be "haunted" that is have energy attached to them. Since the Ouija Board is an "object" it probably can have energy attached to it and be considered "haunted."

How would you be buying it? Would you be able to pick it up, hold it in your hands? That would be the best way to determine if you should buy it or not.

I don't believe there is anything special about these boards. Noe do I believe they are haunted. It is only the power the user gives to them that make them any different than any other hunk of wood and plastic / glass. So if you want to buy one just to have it around, go right ahead.... BTW, I also don't believe they are able to communicate with anything either, no more so than any other object. I suppose they could be manipulated by something external, but then again so could a glass of water sitting on your counter top.

The power to the Ouija is given by the mind and intention of the user, which without adequate precaution and protection attracts spirits which use the board to connect with the physical world.

The Ouija is a game. But like any means of divination, you never know who you have actually contacted. With so many negative reports surrounding it's use, common sense would tell you to proceed with caution.
Many users have not had "bad" experiences but I feel I should add YET to that thought! At 16-17 years of age I used the ouija and feel I became very close to falling for the BS. Somehow I believed the board was a liar. Because i believe you never get something for nothing, I was on alert. Why would this board tell me details no one else could know? It was especially good at relating exciting information I could not research. Why would it complement my inquisitiveness, and predict great mysterious things in my future if i only stayed to communicate a bit longer? What did it want??
Well, may be it is a game, but why take a chance??? Didn't your mother tell you not to talk to strangers??
This idea of evil being present in our lives has carried over to our investigation standards. We are cautious about spirit communication, we spiritually protect our selves and refrain from talking in real time. We do not use any form of divination, frank's or ghost boxes, phone apps etc to get answers to our questions. There is a lot more out there that we DO NOT understand than we know. Answers will come from patience and research, not a card board oracle!

Like any other form of divination, it really boils down to the power of suggestion.

The ouija board does not necessarily have to be "the way" to contact negative energy. You can very well concentrate positive energy into the object.

I don't touch them, but I do know that they can carry energy so that's the only reason why I won't touch them. And I certainly won't allow one to enter my house.

Communicating with spirits using the Ouija board is a personal thing. People have strong feelings about it--both good and bad. I recommend reading this Ghostvillage article before using any Ouija board - new or used:

Communicating With Spirits

Also, Jeff Belanger's book Communicating With The Dead is an excellent resource with a full chapter devoted to talking boards.

Good luck and don't forget to throw some salt on the board when you're done to break the energy!

Iv played with a few ouija boards with out any negatve outcomes so i dont nesesarily believe that a ouija board can be haunted but i think that using one can defenitly bring in unwanted spirits as anyone would tell you but i think they would become attached to the property or the persons involved not so much the board itself, you should exercise caution and make sure you are not opening the door for anything negative when you use one.
