I was scratching my head for a moment, but then I remembered it was summer time "down under," and lots of nocturnal animals can easily be seen at night.
Is there anything happening right now that might be causing animals to migrate rapidly like seismic activity or brush fires, even though they aren't close by? Animals tend to be more "in tune" with these types of things than humans are.
Another thought . . . how far are you from the coast? I've many stories about animals being very active just prior to a tsunami because they are supposedly sensitive to the energy generated by the shifting of tectonic plates far out in the ocean.

Nope about 3 hours from coast, no bush fires, no flash flooding, that I can see forthcoming. Just a odd random grouping of unusual animals.
normally we will see the odd owl .. when it rains the occisional frog.. and just hear foxes
