However, from the activity observed thus far, I might go out on a limb and suggest that what is happening could be caused by an RSPK "poltergeist" event. Perhaps there is an employee who is actually acting as an agent. Were there any new hires around the time activity started...or has anyone (especially a younger, teenaged employee) gone through any stressful events lately? Does the activity seem to happen more often when any certain person is working?
When reading this, for some reason I was instantly reminded of the "Miami Poltergeist" case in which a young man was deemed to be the cause of crazy stuff happening at the souvenir distribution warehouse where he worked...lots of things flying through the air and moving on their own accord.
As for trying to make contact with this entity, I wouldn't do anything without the permission of the owners first. It is theorized that by actively making contact, you're giving the entity the go-ahead to contact YOU...and it may do so at times and in ways that you don't want. You might not stay at this job forever, but you might stir up something that future employees and owners will have to deal with. However, that doesn't mean you can't do some research. Find out what was on the property before the store was built, and find out if there have been any previous employees who recently passed away and might be stopping by.

Luckily, my particular office was the old records archive which housed the old property and probate records of the county and I specialized in historical and some genealogy research, so I eventually researched the location and determined the age of the building. It was later found that the previous building or added-to buiding served as a mortuary, as a newspaper clipping was found of our building location in an old probate file in our office. The property is also one of the original blocks platted for Houston in 1837.
To me it seems that as long as no one is being harmed that the living can co-exist with the spirits. If poltergeists, then I guess y'all have to do a lot of dodging. As Theresa said, you may not want to contact or stir up anything that may be a problem for others now or later or will follow you. I wish I had my paranormal interest then that I have now because I would have done some in-depth investigating.

White Witch, I would enjoy working in old buildings more if I could pay more attention to my surroundings. I think being rational-minded has caused me to miss many potential paranormal moments. I work in a much newer building now, and as far as I know nothing has happened to anyone of which I know. When I worked for the County Clerk's Office, it was a dream job being located in such an old building with such old records. Hell, I even had a couple of probate files that included documents signed by Alamo defenders and other famous Texans. Who knows what kind of energy could have been attached to those documents.
