What's the scariest paranormal experience you've had so far and why?

When I was in high school, it was almost common knowledge that I lived in a haunted house...but not really an average haunted house. We always liked to call it a paranormal halfway house because we'd see apparitions of different people who would show up only a few times, and then never be seen again...this in addition to our main "entity," that we had all seen and experienced---and who we attributed to that of a gentleman who died in our backyard.

Anyway, our ghost(s) was/were pretty protective of the family, actually, and made their disapproval of anyone we brought in who they didn't like quite apparent. When I was 17 and still in high school, my mom went on a work trip to California and left me at the house by myself. Since I was uneasy being by myself with all the weird activity that usually took place, ie seeing apparitions, lights going on an off, etc., my boyfriend offered to stay with me that week. This was in violation of direct orders from my mom that no boys were to spend the night while she was gone, lol.

The first night she was gone, I actually did obey...and was home alone. However, the second night, my boyfriend came over and it was almost as if things started from the second he walked in the door. It started with little things...lights flickering, the TV turning itself off, and for some reason...the oven turning itself on. Then it became more intense. When we were in the living room, we could hear footsteps in the hallway and what sounded like a bedroom door slam. Pots and pans in the cabinets started rattling like they had fallen over in the cabinet, and books slid off a bookcase. The garage door opened itself. The second time the oven turned on all the way, we turned it off, grabbed my poodle and walked outside to the front porch to figure out a plan. While we were sitting out there debating on whether to leave or not, we heard an ungodly crash and saw the front window pane actually vibrate violently. It was if someone threw a basketball as hard as they could at the window, right where we were standing...and there was not a living soul in the house...not even an animal. We took that as our sign as to what to do, and I called my mom sobbing and saying I was NOT going to stay there that night, lol.

This event was the most frightening to me because it was the first time that whatever was in my home had acted with such intensity and obvious hatred. Whatever was there was NOT happy, and I think it was unhappy with my boyfriend, who turned out to be a not-so-good guy. In fact, he had his own horrifying experience there that he didn't tell me until much later...Some time after this experience we acquired a cat. When my mom and I were out of town visiting my grandma, we took the dog with us, but left the cat home, and it was my boyfriend's job to come over once a day and make sure the cat was fed, had water, and had a clean litter box. While taking care of these duties one day, he says he went into the bathroom and at first, he didn't see his own reflection in the mirror.

As he was trying to figure out what the heck was happening, his reflection slowly started materializing in the mirror...but it WASN'T his reflection. He said it looked like an evil version of himself. He took off running, and as he was running out the back door, he said something pushed him and told him to GET OUT. He said as he was running, he looked over his shoulder and saw a woman with black hair looking out the kitchen window at him. He never again watched the cat while we were away. And I never told him that my sister and I had both seen this lady before, lol.

I don't know how true my ex's experience was, but we were both there the night all heck broke loose. Interestingly, my SISTER had a nearly identical experience when she had a boyfriend over. They too ended up leaving the house.

Those are amazing experiences, Theresa. I mean, that could be a movie: "My Guardian, The Ghost", or something like that.
I have never had a scary experience. I wish I could have one just to give me that jolt. All of mine have been just that: an experience. Whenever something starts to happen, I almost immediately flip into analyst mode. That kind of kills the scare thrill.

The one thing that unnerved me was hearing a woman's voice near my ear early in the morning while cleaning the washrooms.

I think, by far, the scariest experience I have had was living w/my daughter & a female friend of mine in a "not so old" house. My friend had been having "experiences" w/something she described as "very evil & nasty". I have had paranormal experiences ALL my life & my daughter has had her fair share as well. Really thinking nothing of this (because we did not feel anything "bad"there) we (my daughter and I) went to bed one night. When I awoke in the morning, there was a searing pain in the upper part of my arm. When I looked @ the underside, there were 4 DEEP scratches & 1 on top (not as deep or painful). It looked like someone (or something) had tried to grab me by my upper arm! I remember looking @ these scratches, trying to come up w/a logical explanation (did I scratch myself in the night? No. My nails weren't long enough to leave those marks, etc.) & not really being able to! OK. NP. I can live w/that. I know a lot of things are not really explainable! Still not feeling like it was done to hurt me, I went to bed later that night. Nothing eventful. I awoke the next morning w/the same scratches on the same arm, re-opened & hurting like crazy!! When I looked around, my daughter was sitting on my bed (she had her own room right across the hall from mine), smiling! She whispered to me "Don't worry mommy! Me n Bill got him" (Bill being the deceased grandfather of my now husband whom my daughter had NEVER met in the flesh)! According to my daughter, the "evil thing" in the house was coming after me but Bill would not allow it! He came to her the 1st night & they made a plan to "be there" if it came back. The scratches were from Bill trying to grab my arm and "drag" me from harms way! My daughter said Bill was not going to allow something like that to get anywhere near his favorite grandson's "girl"! I asked my daughter why the "bad" thing didn't come after her. She said it did but Bill stopped it! That was the night before the scratches! I couldn't help but smile! My immortal soul was saved by a 7yr old & a man who died in 1992 w/out me ever getting to meet him! I consider this to be a "bad" experience because it involved something I was not aware of, that did physical harm to me & might have done the same (or worse) to my daughter! To me, a physical manifestation is always something to be afraid of!

I think my first time ever astral projecting was the most unnerved I ever have been about the paranormal. I've had some scary experiences since then, but I think this was the worst. Mainly because when it happened, I wasn't trying to make it happen and most experiences since then have been things I actively worked towards. It just did while I was sleeping one night, I had no idea what was going on and was really freaked. I couldn't move, started feeling strange vibrations all along my bed, heard noises that I can't really describe, it was really strange. When I was out of my body I couldn't really see, everything was kind of white and blurry, I actually ended up startling myself so much that I came back into my body. The astral world is crazy man

i have had lots and lots of experiences, but the one that scared me the most was this:

was sleeping one night and woke up at around 3am, laying on my back, i looked up at the ceiling and saw a red spirit orb floating there above me. it "noticed" that i was looking at it and shot through the wall(outside). then, i felt a presence on my patio(i lived on the 2nd floor of an apartment building, where the back patio connected to my room). then it started to breath, which sounded like this: the inhale sounded like a rake scraping on concrete and the exhale sounded like a distant flock of birds chirping. i was frozen in absolute fear (i consider myself a manly man at that), laying on my side wide eyed, facing the patio (the blinds were closed) for 10 min while it "breathed" until i somehow fell back alseep. i wish i could have faced my fear and gotten up and peaked out, i can only imagine what was sitting there.

The scariest axperience I had was when I was staying at my parents house while they were away on a trip. It was a house way out in the country. It was late at night and I could here footsteps coming from my parents bedroom upatairs. Then I heard the footsteps start to make their way downstairs. We had three dogs that were outside. I opened the door and let them in and one of the dogs went running upstairs to see who was coming down. The spirit heard the dog and left. I let the dogs stay in that night to keep the spirit away.

When i was young I mother and father and I went o my cousins for a visit. My cousin called my mom and said something like that there baby has something wrong that they believe for some reason there might be something in the room with the baby. I didn't know that was the reason why we were there to visit. I thought we were going to just go see my cousins. So when we arrived my mother went with my cousin and my father went with her husband. I felt an un easiness there but didn't know much what I was feeling. I went and said hi to my cousin with my mom and I asked if I can go see the new baby. She looked at me reluctantly like she didn't want me to. I felt a nervousness and again I didn't know why I felt this from my cousin. She said it might not be a good idea right now. My mother said you know I think it would be a good idea for
Me to go see the baby now as he sleeped. Remember I thought we were just going visiting. When I went into the room the crib was on the back wall and the room was dark because the blind where closed but not dark to the point were I couldn't see. So as I walked up to the crib my mother said carefull then all of assudden I felt something very bad and evil by the baby. So I went up the baby was sleeping and I heard a real deep growl and there was a black entity about two feet tall sitting at the foot inside the crib. I stepped back then crabbed for the baby my mother said no don't touch the baby you see it don't u ? I said I see it feel it and here it. The baby was under protection that's why I couldn't remove him. I asked what it was in the crib my. Mother said it was a black entity when I left the room I realized my grandmother and grandfather was there also I went outside to my father and my mother and grandmother took care of what was there. I have to say that was one of the most scarier thing that happened to me. But I have others experiences to.

I was attacked by an entity from the time I was 10ish until I was 17. I got to the point were I would spend all night sitting in the living room I would only doze not sleep, I hated going into my bedroom for anything. I would get home from school and sit on the porch for several hours until a parent got home. The whole time while sitting out side I could here "THEM" inside trying to lure me into the house.

The scariest experience?
Okay I'll tell you.

On the roof of one abandoned building (where I was to fight my acrophobia)
I've met a ghost.
It was a spiritual place approx 10x10 meters where I felt a contact.
The contact was deep but only at that roof.
At the time whe were together it helped me to fight acrophobia and now
I do not feel any fear and appear very brave at places where all people are scared ;-))

This as a very small fragment of communication, it showed me a lot about the society, people's souls, and so on.

I've contacted only a couple of times..... I thought that "I will always have time to visit that place tomorrow"...

once I've found this building destroyed. and there was no ghost felt there.
And looking there was the most scaring experience... more sad that scaring.

I've learned: in case you have found something great - hurry up to enjoy it, cos tomorrow it may be too late ;-)))
cos this is the destructible world where everything will have it's end

it was a woman spirit, her ideas were similar to ideas of radical shaktism =)
everything will be destructed one day. and this is harmony... and the harmony is wonderful...
but I was out of time to find myself seriously in this communication with ghost.

the most scaring fact that the haunted building was destroyed.. and the great ghost was only at the roof and is not contactible anymore

P.s. as for shaktism ideas - these words don't mean that all point of view of my ghost will sound similar to ideas of indian businessmen that wants to make cash, or ideas of orthodoxal induists that have created their "gods" to scare ordinary people to manipulate them.

No. Something is very similar. something is deadly different.
Sometimes, the closer u come to the temple... the more far you are from god.

I admit there was no gurantee that it was a paranormal experience, but when I was younger (around 12 years old) me and a friend decided to explore a new housing estate (the builders never locked the houses), in one house I went in the inside and he went around the outside (now I saw him walking outside through a window so I know what happened was not him), I went into one room in this house and as soon as I entered I felt like something was wrong (got a real bad feeling), as soon as I felt it I left and from the hallway a stone hit a wall near me. It could of been a coincidence, but it certainly terrified me.

kenshin, regarding our house, we are the original owners and watched as it was built. We have had paranormal happenings since we moved in. I know people will come up with many explanations as to what it could be, but I feel spirits move around and can take up residence wherever they please, so why not in a house under construction. It also doesn't help that we have lots of antiques, so there coudl be the issue of attachment.
