Curators at the Manchester Museum say that they’ve had this particular relic, a piece of history dating back to 1800 BC, on display for 80 years, but it wasn’t until several weeks ago when they began to notice its mysterious movements.

Saw this on FB. Most say its friction, but I wonder why the statue just started moving and if it is friction, why the others are not. Not enough info in the video to tell.

A fun video to watch. I was wondering why the staff didn't put the statue back in alignment with the others, but they must have had this phenomenon for awhile and decided to film it?

I didn't see any of the other statues moving, so I can't think it's vibrations from people walking by, unless the museum glued the others in place so as to perpetuate a hoax for publicity. Maybe the real statue was replaced with something out of a lighter material that moves more easily that the other stone statues?

Well, it appears that it only moves during the day and when there is a decent amount of foot traffic going by. It is a taller statue than the others; the others are in a sitting state as opposed to the moving statue being of a figure that is standing, obviously having a higher center of gravity. It is also displayed at the very end of what appears to be a slick display surface. Carlotta mentioned some really good possibilities.
To me there is most likely a reasonable earthly explanation to this, but you guys can toss it around and come up with more theories. I don't say spiritual involvement just because there isn't an immediate explanation.

Can't tell from the video but I wonder if the bottom is perfectly flat or has a slight bevel to it. If it does the least amout of vibration might cause it to rock and reposition itself. It would not take much, I would test this by placing the statue on a piece of material which is slightly padded. That would cancel any irregularities in the base and if that were the cause would stop the movement.

That would be so easy to fake, since it takes a pic every few seconds. All you have to do is pause the security cam and go move the statue a bit.... like a claymation cartoon. :)
In love with an awesome woman

Maybe there is a magnet in the base, and under the platform there is another magnet on a turning mechanicm. It causes the statue to move a little every few seconds.

Since I believe this to have an "earthly" explanation, I think anything is possible, carlotta; especially since this thing only moves during the day when surrounded by activity, as shown.

The museum might hope that this stunt will bring in more visitors. In an economic downturn, museums can take a hit.

I'm sure it's not intentional, but one never knows when humans are involved.
