I know it is a bit early but i just wondered if anybody has actually had a real spirit knock on their door? if so how did you know and if you did not realise until afterwards did you give "it" any sweets/candy?
It has not happened to me (knowingly) but surely if you wre a spirit this would be a great time to show yourself and "get away with it".

Yeah I have, no one was around, did not bother leaving any candy out side.
There has been many times the dogs have barked at the door when no one was at it. They will bark at anyone at the door even us.
In love with an awesome woman

At Halloween? No. But we use to have some great Halloween parties in a haunted house. I have also been through 3 halloween Haunted houses that took place in actual haunted locations.

I'm pretty sure this hasn't happened to me, as most of the trick-or-treaters I have come to our VERY busy neighborhood are generally accompanied by a large group of parents and are generally given away by their light-up sneakers, lol. But, I don't get a chance to actually give out the candy most of the time; I always took my nephew out until he got into middle school, and by that time, my own son was old enough for me to take him. Honestly, I would be kinda miffed if a spirit came to my door asking for candy; seriously, so many people come into our neighborhood that the police close off the subdivision and patrol. It's nothing to go through over $100 worth of candy and I just can't afford to give it out to those who cannot physically enjoy it!

Anyway, its a very interesting concept. Several months ago, I got really into the first season of American Horror Story on Netflix and one of the episodes dealt with the idea that Halloween was the one night where the ghosts could leave the property and interact with the living freely. I also remember a terrifying television show that was about a crazy old man who ran a store. Those who owed him money would send their kids to his house on Halloween and if they found the hidden receipts, the debt was erased. Of course, the old man did everything in his power to scare the kids to death...and then one Halloween he got his own scares as some "different" trick or treaters showed up!

Reminds me of the "South Park" episode where Kenny died early in the show and became an actual zombie (via worchester sauce accidentally spilled into the imbalming fluid used on him, which is a scientific fact) and went trick-or-treating with the other boys. They got BAD_WORD at him because he kept biting the people passing out candy.
