Who has a "ghost road" in their area? I have heard of quite a few of them...most have the same "haunting", a ghost light appears, a "ditch digger" apparition and possibly putting your car in neutral and it mysteriously moves up hill by "ghosts". There is one such road near here(near Savannah Georgia) that has the same claims. Last year, my team wanted to go there and investigate the area...I did not go :( But the Haunted History of the Road in Brooklet Georgia is a "ditch digger" that seams to be digging it's grave is seen near or under the only streetlight on the road...a "ghost light" is also seen on the road, red to amber in color. My team interviewed a few of the locals and they did confirm what the claims are http://bloodyblondes...-roads-old.html Interestingly enough, when these pics were taken, the camcorder batteries were drained. However, they did manage to capture a few pics. The first one is where the pics were taken, the black circle is where the pics were taken, the yellow is the streetlight where the "ditch digger" is seen and the red is the only house in the area. My team claims the "orbs" looked like Christmas tree lights, moving in and around the trees and even coming up to the road.

The only one that I have heard of here is Beacon Hill. The story is about a farmer looking for his daughter. You are suppose to see his lantern. It's been a while since I heard this story.

I brought that up in the Technical Support board. Hasn't been fixed yet for me.

I've been to Channel Road (about 30 minutes away) and I've always thought the story was a variant of the typical La Llorona, but every time I go out there, something weird happens. I've also heard rumors of a ghostly semi truck speeding up and down the road, but haven't been able to dig anything on that.

South of Fresno, there is a phantom hitchhiker outside of the town of Delano on Browning Road. Story has it that a young woman was crossing the road early one morning and was hit by a car. People have seen shadowy figures at night, others have said they've seen the ghost of the woman on the side of the road as if she is about to cross it. There's even a Facebook group page dedicated to the story which I found interesting.

San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge
Oakland, CA
No, it’s not just the ever-present fog playing tricks with you. There is a rumor that a headless jogger frequents the bottom deck of the bridge. This jogger specifically likes to knock on the windows of cars headed towards Oakland, perhaps to advise them to turn around back to San Francisco? Whether out of hometown pride or boredom, the headless jogger also likes to run at the same speed of cars and distract drivers. So, if you’re ever driving on the bridge towards Oakland, keep your eyes firmly on the road and let your passengers look out for the ghost. While construction on the bridge started in 1933, the ghost is said to be an unfortunate soul from the 1989 earthquake.

I really wouldn't call either a "ghost road", there is one road that has a phantom car. So many people have seen this car. We all suspect, based on how the car looks, and the fact that it is always going incredibly fast, that it is an old moonshine runner. The other road, is just a tiny road with a couple dozen houses on it. Nearly every house on this road experiences the same ghost. No one believes its a human spirit. Everyone there has also experienced the ghost of two little kids, and a "witch" at an old abandoned house seat from the 1800's. The "witch" and the spirit that they all believe is non-human are both likely to be my ancestors. That area was originally settled by my family.

Lets not forget US route 491, formerly known as US route 666. Lots of weird and spooky stuff reported on that road.

Its' funny how there are so many "haunted roads" but not too many have been actually investigated in the true sense of investigating I should say. Most are found to be just haunted tales. We have one here called, get this, Ghost Hallow Road! The only thing known to have happened near there was 1 rape murder that took place. There are claims that a statue of Mary that was put out there, moves to different places, claims of shadows of figures running into a gully and residual screams. But no one has any kind of evidence...so......
It would be interesting if someone actually got some sort of soild evidence to go along with some of these claims all over.

Most of these seem to be just folklore based on old tales intended to instill fear in children. I have investigated a few locally and to date nothing was found. But historically most have some back story that gives a basis in fact. That is until you actually do the historical research and find the story never really happened, or it was not like the legend claims.

In this area, and several others too, we have "Cry Baby Bridges". These are similar in that at times a child's cry can be heard according to the stories. Usually the story involves a child drowning, or being killed, often by the mother. But just as often the tales is mere fabrication; no such death ever took place. So we can investigate all we want but chances are nothing is going on. But why not look just in case?

Setting stories straight would be great! But evidence is the main factor of course...
Just like in the stories of some of the "haunted" locations I have been to. OMG, you wouldn't believe what I actually hear and see! Even the wrong name of who is the spirit in question! Stupid stories and the TV shows carry on with them. I love when they are calling out the names of the spirit and it's wrong!!!
(especially when I have been to that location...lol)
I have been on the Queen Mary many times, I used to live a short distance from it. You would not believe what they have done to the ship to make money off of people on their "ghost hunt"! They have cut it up and made a huge tour of the ship and have added effects on the tour! I was shocked!!!
When I spent the night on the ship, I had the dang Captain (forgot his name) who sat in my room all night bugging me!!! I even turned over in my bed towards the wall against my bed and he began banging on the wall up in my face! There was nothing on the otherside but my closet!
I had been at the 1st Ghostfest and Jeff was there and Peter James and many others. The "ghost hunters" were running amuck like crazy. I went about with some friends I knew that were there and they were even crazy running about. I left and went to bed, it was rediculous!
Anyway, stories and tales of things just never seem to get backed up with real evidence, be it photos, evp, video, history and even a read of the area. All of these things would make for "real" stories if they were true. Now if the tourist attraction part would stop, maybe some of this could really get done.
(sorry for the ramble)

That is really too bad that they have done something like that. I may be wrong but to me, reading through some posts, it sounds like people aren't believing in "ghosts".

I've always thought haunted roads were really interesting. Here in WV we have a lot of "road ghosts," including Huntington's famous vanishing hitchhiker, but my favorite "ghost road," would have to be the WV Turnpike. Ever since it was built, people have been reporting UFO activity, phantom hitchhikers (who have even disappeared right out of the back of a state trooper's car) and other weird things. Here's a little more info if you're interested:

WV Turnpike

The problem with actually investigating such ghost roads is that there's not too much you can do aside from closely examining the history and analyzing anecdotal "evidence." Its nearly impossible to actually do an on-site investigation at the majority of these locations. For one, its a huge safety issue...especially on a place like the turnpike. This isn't some country road that is rarely traveled; its a major highway filled with crazy turns and hilly terrain. Secondly, given that a road is an outdoor location, the usually difficult task of eliminating as much contamination as possible becomes exponentially more difficult, lol. And thirdly, you're dealing with a much larger area than you normally would be dealing with. Usually its just a stretch of road, but even that stretch can be over a mile...leaving you a LOT of ground to cover.

But like I said, I love ghost roads, lol. I do like the folklore aspect of them, but I also love really digging into history to see what could have possibly sparked the legends or if anything actually backs up the claims...or outright refutes them. I've covered several on my blog, most recently a very strange, if not haunted, road in England where drivers were being plagued with shattering windshields!
