I know there are several theories and rumors as to what actually happened in the history of Camp CT to make it haunted and cause it to shut it off to the general public.

Here's a theory of mine, and I repeat, ONLY A THEORY: Perhaps the Oddfellow organization is in fact a cult that practices some sort of dark ritual/ black magic. They could have opened the Camp to the public for a short time simply to bolster trust from the locals so that they would believe it was only a camp owned by a friendly social organization and when some outsider had suspicion of it, the locals would become defensive on the camp's behalf, having fond childhood memories of the place.

Any ghosts there could be the results of the rumored human sacrifices performed there. However, I am skeptical of the claims that people have seen human remains on the site, since these could easily have been disposed of at the local waste transfer station that is less than a mile down the scenic road. I trust all of you on this site will keep your minds rational and not jump to my theories or any other rumors as definite FACT without substantial evidence proving them true beyond a reasonable doubt.

Also, has anybody noticed the once creepy ramshackle house across the street has been refaced into a beautifal tan-colored home. Perhaps this will help divert negative suspicions of the folks living there as being somehow guilty of knowing or participating in any unholy doings within the Camp. Besides, if they were connected to the camp, wouldn't it be foolish of them to cast suspicion upon themselves by living in a delipidated house right across the street from it? Just a few rambling thoughts...

Interesting theory. However if the house across the street is in cahoots with the IOOF don't you think they would serve as a sentry post and guard the land from trespassers who could possibly find out the secrets of the Order?

I always question the true motive around secret societies. Maybe the lesser members are not in on the masterplan, but I bet the senior members are up to something. Fronting themselves as a society for the betterment of mankind.

You got to love a conspiracy!

The thing you said about the lower mebers of the society not knowing about the "master plan", however depends upon what that plan is. If it is something like world domination (or at least countrywide), as would be likely with Freemasons, then the lower members probably are mostly ignorant of any alterior motives.

However, if the the secret society's hidden purose is something like cult-style rituals or even human sacrifice, though extreme, most of the lower members, with the exception of the untrusted, would be in the know because they would also be participating in the riual.

Good point about the house, perhaps the owner may even be the hunter that chased after other people on this site, since lets face it, how could one look less suspicious with a gun than when dressed as a hunter?

Yeah the house was in shambles when I went years ago, now its very nice. I can tell you one thing, it's no secret that Colchester was once a very popular town with much witch craft and covens. Idk, my moms ex grew up there and he said people were very open with covens and witch craft, he said it wasnt weird, thats just how it was, so I wouldnt be surprised. I heard the camp was a nice family camp, but then after it got shut down covens/cults began using it.

OK all .... here's a suggestion. I believe I can set up a unique opportunity for you all. If I could coordinate a day when you could visit the camp and meet some of the members of Odd Fellows, would anyone be interested? I'm quite sure I could arrange this. It is likely the organization would be receptive to this if you would each be willing to make a small donation to help support the rebuilding efforts at the camp. The camp is owned by the Odd Fellows, a non-profit fraternal organization, not some bizarre cult. The primary goal of Odd Fellows is to help those less fortunate than yourself.

It's true that the camp has been basically closed for some time now, but efforts are underway to reopen it for camping by members of the organization.

Many of you have posted asking why Odd Fellows have not come forward to offer the real story about the camp. If there is real interest in putting a day like this together, I'll pursue it and post more detail here. If the rumors, stories, and anecdotes are more appealing to you all, then I'll save myself the effort and let you decide for yourself on what is true. Please reply to this post and if there is enough interest, I'll start working on setting this up.

I am hundreds of miles away and might be interested.
You sound offended. Please dont be. With the exception of one interesting theory, this post has shown quite a bit of interest in the history and story behind this camp. Because there were no answers people came here looking for them. Maybe you could enlighten us as you seem to know the story behind it.

Sure, I'd be more than happy to donate to reopening the camp, especeally in light of getting to meet some of the IOOF and inquire about the grounds. And please don't be offended by our curiousity and suspicions about the camp and the OF secret society, if they were more open with the camp's backround, none of us would be at all skeptical of them. I'd be greatly interested in this meetup, count me in.

I apologize if my post sounded as though I was offended - that is certainly not the case. I will pursue this and see what I can put together with the Odd Fellows. I would expect this would happen when the weather warms up and there are no major projects going on. Thanks for expressing your interest.

Thanks for your help, campctioof :) I've been getting a good chuckle reading some of the earlier postings from this thread but I think it's time to put this story to rest.

Please extend our thanks in advance to the Odd Fellows for taking the time to meet with the folks at GV who are interested in visiting Camp Connecticut . . .

There are walking trails and alot of woods area around the property. I happened to venture in the woods around the place as there are alot of walking trails and I learned that they do alot of hunting and or target shooting at CC during the day there. BE VERY CAREFULL if your walking around there during the day or you might just become one of the ghosts
