Anyway, my ex wasn't being cleansed for anything specific. I hear its rather a common ritual. She could not have been less N.A. or knowledgeable about such things - A jewish girl from Manhattan who was dating me, a British immigrant who's lived mostly in L.A. and Philadelphia. She told me she just forgot to throw the herbs into the fire, and I can't argue with that... I wasn't there. But theres no doubt that it wasn't very cool, and she wasn't invited to anything else after that.
But if nothing else, it taught me respect, and I try to communicate that respect to anyone who brings up the topic. To be honest, I thought it was all mumbo-jumbo before that happened, but I know better now. It was the most clear and consistent encounter I've had or have heard about. Everyone who spent a few minutes alone somewhere in the apartment during that time ran into it... there was absolutly no argument as to what it was. I wish I would have brought some non-believers or friends up there to hear it, but I didn't really look at it as being a zoo exhibit
