In the victorian era no one thought it possible that a refined fagile female could do something like an ax murder but the illigimate brother adds a whole new twist. I had not heard that one before.
I heard that after the trial, she sold the house and moved into nice victorian up on the hill with her sister. They never spoke of the murder after the trial. Afterall, she was aquitted.

I also think the hype about the hauntings is to draw more tourists to the location. People do want to visit the home and surrounding area, but a few extra tintillating things don't hurt the attraction.

alot of my friends said the cemetery plot and the b&b is haunted. they encountered stuff
