haunted aircraft Options

Does anyone know of any stories of Aircraft Military or Civilian that are known to be haunted?
I know of a B-29 at Castle Air Museum in Atwater Ca. I believe it is haunted by a crewmember of one of the B-29 doners used to build the one in the museum. I've heard of stories of people locking the place up for the night would leave only to see a light in the plane but there is no way a light could be on in the plane and people seeing someone sitting in the cockpit dressed as a crewmember.
Any stories of haunting would be appreciated.

the_dude, you're in luck!  It just so happens that I know a gentleman who was stationed at Castle Air Force Base for 18 years and has lived in the Atwater area for over 30 years.  I'll be seeing him in October, and since he was a jet engine mechanic there on the base, I'd be willing to bet that he's probably heard a story or two about the B-29 in question. I'll make a note of that and get back to you if I can find any additional information. I'm kind of curious myself . . .

Don't you just love how the censor software mangles posts on aviation related topics?  You'll have to write "flight station" when you're discussing the area where the aircrew sits.  Otherwise, the software thinks you're being rude and changes it to "thingypit."

Yeah it is a funny, I can just see a pilot saying he is climbing into the 'thingypit'! That would be great if you can get more info on the B-29. I believe that the plane was from China Lake. Many Thanks!

Castle Air Museum executive assistant Karen Machen has heard many of the ghostly stories regarding the museum’s B-29 bomber and has developed a healthy respect for possible spirit activity at the facility which is home to so much history. The Boeing B-29 heavy bomber in the collection of Atwater’s Castle Air Museum has been the subject of much interest as the possible home of a spirit named “Arthur.”

Thanks for that spirit!  I have been to that museum many times and have several pictures of that B-29.  I'll have to check out those pics and the many other pics I have of the other planes there and see if there are anything strange on them I have not noticed before. This is one of those "haunted airport" stories from England, the Royal Air Base at Wittering is plagued by a "phantom bomber", that swoops down toward the runway with only a whistling sound.An airman wearing a W.W.II uniform has been seen in the control tower.The beginging of the events,supposedly, goes back to a 1940 incident when a bomber hit by German fire, attempted to land without enginesThe out-of-control plane hit the Control tower, and the accident claimed many victums.

Supposedly, a German pilot crashed while making an emergency landing at RAF Woodbridge during WWII, and his ghost still haunts the control tower there.  Rumor has it that "Herman The German" is actually quite friendly . . .

and the lady who wrote it went to a historic plane place that had planes from most wars we had....You would enjoy it!

Hey, little_light!  You must be talking about the Air Force museum at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton.  It just so happens that I did my retirement outprocessing at Wright-Patterson in 1993.  I had a few hours to kill so I went over to the museum.  The energy in the place is incredible!   The building itself is huge, so it's easy to get lost, and when things are quiet, you swear you can hear the faint sounds of props turning as you walk through the maze of airplanes.  The planes also leak hydraulic fluid since the seals in the all the actuators are dried out from just sitting.  It's a rather eerie effect, as the old MILSPEC hydraulic fluid is almost blood red in color . . .

Very interesting story about the starlifters. I remember reading about a B-52 whose tail number was 666, those who flew it called it 'the beast' I don't know if it was involved in any strange encounters but I believe it has since been scrapped, really big shame!

There is a small grass strip airport in New Milford, CT. called Candle Light Farms Airport. It was used for years as a glider port but most recently a small hanger with old aircraft are using the strip. A Bi-plane also gives weekend rides. Off the end of the runway, on a Mt. top sits what is left from the wreckage of a "Bamboo Flyer". Not sure what kind of aircraft that is......maybe an aviation guru can fill us in??? The story is that the pilot encountered heavy fog and ran directly into the Mt. top, short of clearing by only a few feet. I believe this happened in the 60's??? Anyway, I havent been up there in many years but all that remains are the engines of the airplane. I have in years past heard that strange noises can be heard in the woods, and someone once told me the site was haunted but couldnt provide any stories. I believe the woods surrounding the airport still have hiking trails including one that leads right to the crash site. Someday I will get back up there and poke around a little.

There are stories of the parts of flight 401, and the ghost of the flight engineer appearing on aircraft which used the parts salvaged from the crash.
