I thought it would be fun to share your leet vocabulary. I'll start with a few basics

1337 = leet = elite
lol = laugh out loud
rotf = rolling on the floor
rtfm = read the freaking manual

I didn't lose my mind - I have it backed up on a disk ... somewhere

Darci, the 1 stands for l (caps off L) 3 for E and T for the pronounciation of the word.

it is something like gr8 --> great or 4u --> for you

In leet (internet slang), letters can be substituted with numbers (or characters) that look similar (or sound the same). Here are some common substitutions:

1 = I or L
3 = E
4 = A
5 = S
7 = T
8 = B
9 = G
0 = O

Using that guide, 1337 spells "Leet" which is short for "Elite". You are elite if you understand 1337.

Well, now that makes sense. guess I'm not elite since I didn't get the 1337 thing.

I used to know how to spell H E double hockeysticks on a calculator when I was in school!

I never understood that nerd computer slang, subbing the letters for numbers. Like own3d and such.

Ah. Well... I attended Juilliard... I'm a graduate of the Harvard business school. I travel quite extensively. I lived through the Black Plague and had a pretty good time during that. I've seen the EXORCIST ABOUT A HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SEVEN TIMES, AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE IT... NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT YOU'RE TALKING TO A DEAD GUY... NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK? You think I'm qualified? --BeetlejuiceI'm the ghost with the most, babe.--BeetlejuiceWe've come for your daughter Chuck--Beetlejuice

Lope, that is (pretty much) already in "leet speak". Not all words will numbers or weird characters in them.

"1337 haxr pwns u" ( "leet haxor owns you" ) basically means that some (self-proclaimed) elite hacker is better than you.

Another common rule is to use "ph" in place of "f". "Phreak" originally meant someone who could hack the phone system.
