Great thread
It's funny how this topic should come up, as just the other day I pulled the ol' guitar out of the case and starting strumming a few tunes, and as I was playing, I realized that every song in my repertoire had a memory behind it--and a woman's name and a woman's face. This particular song always reminds me of a special lady I once knew:
July, You're A Woman
I can't hold it on the road when you're sittin' right beside me
'Cause I'm drunk out of my mind merely from the fact that you are here
And I have not been known as the Saint of San Joaquin
And I'd just as soon right now pull on over to the side of the road
And show you what I mean
La la la dah dah dah dah dah
La la la dah dah dah dah dah
July, you're a woman
More than any one I've ever known
And I can't keep my eyes on the white line out before me
With your hand on my collar and you talking in my ear
And I've been running 'round with a Gypsy girl named Shannon
Daughter of the devil
Ain't it strange that I should mention her to you?
I haven't thought of her in years

So if you're ever in the downtown Main Avenue business district of Durango, Colorado, drop by the Marias Bookshop and browse the shelves. And if you should happen to see a beautiful Sicilian woman with gold-flecked eyes behind the counter, ask her if they have any John Stewart CDs and tell her I said "Hi" . . .
