Hmmm. Very interesting. I anxiously await any new findings from Justa Holmes (or does Sherlock Justa sound better?) It seems we have a new species of something. Or maybe its a wierd mutation.

I think the poor animal, whatever it may have been in species, was obviously starving to death....Looks like the front paws were bent under in the first picture, then straightened out in the others and the jaw looks like it may have been broken, too...I think it looks like a very sick coyote, whippet or grayhound, too...
Very sad, hope the poor critter is healthy, well-fed and happy in its new life!

According to the various news agencies reporting on this creature, the general consensus amongst animal experts is that it is simply a coyote with a bad case of the mange.
Here is a picture of a coyote that is caught in a trap and has the mange:

And lastly, this is an image of one of these animals alive. I can't find anything that says if this is a dog or a coyote.

It almost looks like a hairless cat except the head is almost canine like, especially with the teeth. Whatever it is (or was) it couldn;t have been successful at killing the chickesn...you see the poor things ribs sticking out?? I feel sorry for it. If there are any more out there I want one alive so I can have it as a pet! lol. I'll call him Chupie for short.

I have looked and looked at that picture. I only see a poor helpless creature that nobody could figure out what it was. When all along it looks like a baby dear. Maybe even a sick one. So instead of sedating it and giving it the medical attention it needs, they tortured it instead. Cruel. Very cruel. I feel so bad for the poor thing.

Personally i would say that looking at just the shape of the skull it looks like som kind of fox, Can any texans tell me if they have some variety of desert foxes or if there is simply the coyote in the desert, and yes i know the coyote is a wolf not a fox...
Would be cool if it was a chupa out there though!

Nope, you are right Randy, I have never seen a chupa running around free, but I have come in contact with a number of coyotes face to face & this is very similiar to them. I agree with the assumption that it is a coyote with a very bad case of mange. Coyotes are not pretty animals & the picture that was posted by Axman looks like a very well taken care of animal, like it was on a preserve or somewhere. The coyotes that we see out here in east TX are long & lanky & very unattractive, & they are very aggressive looking animals. I haven't enjoyed my encounters with them, but, what can you do when you live in "their" country?
