Be sure to check the link, see the video and hear the scream (sounds like a big foot scream - sort of ?!)

LIBERTY, Ohio -- An unusual and noisy mystery has people in a small town north of Middletown on edge, worried and asking questions, News 5’s Brian Hamrick reported.

Liberty, Ohio, is a quiet little community, except for one thing -- the scream.

Jamie Young told Hamrick she heard it while she and her husband were walking one evening.

“It scared me. I didn’t want to finish my walk,” Young said.

But instead of running into her house, she said she recorded the noise and sent a tape to the local newspaper.

With a sensitive microphone and some special ghost-hunting goggles, Hamrick went hunting for the haunting sounds, traipsing boldly into the most likely spots -- from a graveyard to an old church where flea market dealer Walt Wilson sells some truly frightening things. But he’s not worried.

“I don’t think it’s going to wind up grabbing any of us and running off with us,” Wilson said.

Residents have no shortage of ideas about what’s making the sound, from cats to owls to something even scarier.

Townspeople said they called in an animal expert, who told them the noise didn’t come from an animal.

So for now, the scream remains a mystery.

I saw this some time ago on t.v., and thought that they made quite a joke of the matter. Could this have any relationship with the Banshee?

Eeeeeeeeee! I would be pretty spooked if I heard that while taking a stroll some evening. But, my bet would be that the source of the scream is likely some bored teenagers looking to scare up some fun and excitement. However, you never know...........

I was commenting on this very story on another board. I agree that they seemed to just make it a joke, as news shows often do with a paranormal story. This one was particularly bad, because the reporter was nowhere near funny. In fact he was rather irritating. If this were not a family site I'd say something harsher, but anyhow....

I thought it sounded very similar to the "bigfoot howls" that we so often hear.

oh yeah. I looked for this town on the map. It's just a bit northwest of Mansfield. Coincidence???

Maybe i should take a ride down there.

Let us know what you find, its a bit far for another drive for this family, one trip out there and a trip to DC with a possible one to Charleston killed my gas budget

These were what I thought could be making the sounds but listening back to them, it doesnt sound similar at all, the mysterious sound is more of an ape/gorilla like howl but i'm seriously doubting Ohio has Gorillas running loose in the woods!

This is an interesting case because the same thing happened in Northern Virginia back in the 70's near Mt. Vernon. They called it "The Mount Vernon Beast".

For a few month period a scream came from the woods and it's source was never identified even after neighborhood watches and a search team sent in.

An older resident says they saw a "hairy man" come near their house one night but this story was never confirmed or proven.

One day, it just up and stopped and is still a mystery in the area.

Well I can't check it out right now as we have a baby due anytime now. But Maybe in a couple months. We'll see how things go.

After hearing that sound, I'm inclined to go along with the belief that it's a "Bigfoot howl". One thing is certain. Ok, well, two things. One, nothing human made that sound. I don't think anything human could make that sound if it tried. Two, nothing canine nor feline did either. That's no dog, and even a mountain lion sounds more like a woman's scream than that.

Check these out and compare. Notice that there is an Ohio one. Although rare Ohio does have the occassional Bigfoot sighting.
