Raymond Buckland is the author of numerous books pertaining to Witchcraft, the paranormal, and the supernatural. In The Witch Book, he gives the reading audience an invaluable reference book that contains much data with photos and illustrations. This book is a true moveable feast for reading, and as a reference it is one of the most complete of its kind available.
Following Buckland's interesting introduction, the table of contents starts its listing from A to Z. The entry work is impeccable and typically Buckland in its in-depth exploration of theme and material pertaining to each given topic.
Some of the many, many topics covered in this thick book include: Abracadabra, Ankh, Astral Plane, Astral Body, Astrology, Balefire, Francis Barrett, Jean Bodin, Book of Shadows, Brujo, Laurie Cabot, Chants, Council of American Witches, Aleister Crowley, Druids, Gerina Dunwich, Faery - Faith Tradition, Dion Fortune, Gerald Brouseau Gardner, Gods and Goddesses, Green Man, Herbs, Imagic Magic, Isis, Jack o' Lantern, Kundalini, Sybil Leek, Lord's Prayer, Merlin, Mugwort, Names of Power, Osiris, Origins of Witchcraft, Harry Potter, Popes, Sabbats, Talisman, Tantra, Undines, Doreen Valiente, Voodoo, Wiccan Rede, Witchcraft, Yoni and Lingam, Zodiac, to mention just a few entries from an immense encyclopedia. The entry writing is in-depth and well-crafted.
What is important about this type of reference is its logical approach to all items that pertain to Witches, Witchcraft, and the supernatural. Enjoyable for general reading purposes, it is also an incredible referencing of material, some of which is oftentimes overlooked. A good book for the home library paranormal and supernatural shelf, and an excellent book to have in the public library to dispel myths about Witches and Witchcraft.
Buckland's The Witch Book is highly recommended. A nice investment and a nice reading adventure await the readers of this reference work.
