This is the definitive look at the great Hindu god called Shiva. For those interested in the paranormal, mythical, and religious attributes of this legendary god, this is the best book currently available with its fresh approach and in-depth examination.
Shiva has his devotees not only in India but in the world at large. Shiva is a god who crosses cultural lines and is worshiped by different people for different reasons. Hindu myth reveals him as arriving at the start of creation, coming into existence as a giant pillar of fire from which our world developed.
As a myth figure, Shiva is respected widely. Shiva is also the most approachable of gods, and is known as the keeper of secret occult and supernatural powers. He is also referred to as the lord of poisons, and intoxicants. Most people in the West associate Shiva as the dancing Hindu god, but there is more to it than that as Shiva dances for the joy of being as well as the dance of doom. In all aspects, Shiva breaks through the false egos of humans to reveal the true self lying within. Those who follow the path of Vedanta are well aware of the power of Shiva, and what he symbolizes.
This book looks at Shiva, a favorite figure worshiped by both men and woman. The illustrations and photographs in this fine nonfiction book will delight its readers.
There are fourteen chapters in the book. Chapter 4, "God's Virile Member" gives a fascinating look at the concept of Lingam Yoni. Chapter 6, "The Goddess," covers the importance of Devi, Durga, Kali, Annapurna, and Ganga. The discussion of Durga is both intriguing and enlightening. Each chapter in the book has its own special merits and makes for enjoyable, educational reading. The book, as a whole, is filled with excellent insights into Shiva and Hinduism.
This book is highly recommended reading. Worth your time, and a genuinely excellent reading experience for all readers.
