Secrets and Lies: Fact or Fiction?

The basics of conspiracy theory: Nothing happens by accident. Nothing is as it seems. Everything is connected. Recent news events are rife with conspiracies:

The official in charge of the inquiry into the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, a favorite topic of conspiracy theorists, strongly suggests that the investigation is reaching a sensational conclusion.

Colin Powells former chief of staff Lawrence Wilkerson calls pre-war Iraq intelligence a "hoax on the American people."

Anyone for a serving of Opus Dei? The Da Vinci Code is the most current example of the national fascination with grand conspiracies and conspirators.

Based on the evidence, one can only assume that our understanding of the world we live in is, at best, incomplete. Usually replete with internal paradoxes, conspiracy theories may offer at least a kernel of the elusive truth and sometimes much more: entirely credible alternative versions of world-changing events and their participants. Sometimes, it seems, the paranoid are on to something.

The task of the serious researcher is to make an intelligent discernment, separating fact from fiction, myth from reality. Enter the "S" Files: expert investigators Brad and Sherry Steiger shed the white light of solid reporting and interpretation to illuminate historys biggest mysteries and darkest corners with their new book, Conspiracies and Secret Societies: The Complete Dossier (Visible Ink Press, February 2006, $24.95). Provocative enough to be classified secret, it provides gripping detail, presents the facts, and lets the reader decide.

This broad-ranging and revealing work uncovers and examines the hidden agendas and agreements, the secret cabals and fraternal orders. In Conspiracies and Secret Societies, the Steigers present more than 200 current and historical stories, thousands of sources and references, and nearly 100 photographs and illustrations--plus a list of resources for further investigation and a comprehensive index for obsessive cross-checking: a dossier, in short, debunking the myths and presenting the evidence on an invisible world of influence and power, including:

Topical issues--such as: bio-chip implants, genetic manipulation, black helicopters, weather control, the New World Order, satellite snooping, and the Trilateral Commission. Historical riddles--such as the Ark of the Covenant, the Holy Grail, Noahs Ark, the Sphinx, alchemy, the true relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene, and the churches dedicated to the Black Madonna. Old and enduring societies--such as the Knights Templar, Freemasons, Illuminati, the mystery religions, the Triads, and the Rosicrucians.

Modern-day initiates-- including the Skull and Bones Society, Scientology, the Falun Gong, Lightning from the East. Obsessive subjects among conspiracy theorists--from Jack Ruby to Ruby Ridge, the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Area 51, the Roswell UFO crash, and human abductions by extraterrestrial invaders. More conspiracies with terrible secrets--such as those involving Unit 731 and germ experiments, the West Nile Virus, the tsunami of December 2004, the death of Princess Diana, FEMA, Hurricane Katrina, the Global Bank, and mad cow disease. Recent revelations about Presidents--Richard M. Nixon, William J. Clinton, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, and their advisors, reflecting perhaps the conspiratorial nature of politics.

Sure to appeal to political enthusiasts, conspiracy buffs, history readers, paranormal devotees, and true-crime aficionados, Conspiracies and Secret Societies: The Complete Dossier soars through the centuries, collecting the evidence and unwinding like a collection of great mystery tales. As for the ultimate truth behind the riveting stories? You be the judge.

About the Authors:
With a hand in more than 150 books, Brad Steiger has spent five decades exploring the unusual, hidden, secret, and otherwise strange. His books include Real Ghosts, Restless Spirits, and Haunted Places; The Werewolf Book; Mysteries of Time and Space; and Bizarre Crime. Steiger appears frequently on radio and television, and bimonthly as a guest on the nationally syndicated Jeff Rense Show, answering listener questions about mysterious events.

Sherry Steiger has more than 40 books to her credit, including the "Miracle" series. An ordained minister, Steiger is also a former magazine editor, creative director, family youth director, and television and motion picture producer. With a background in nursing, Steiger formed a nonprofit holistic research and education school in the 1970s and has been researching alternative health issues and mysteries of the unknown since the 1960s. She has addressed audiences and corporate groups nationwide on stress management, health and wellness, and other topics.
