The Dark Specter on Charles IslandRate this encounter: (Name withheld upon request), Milford, Connecticut, October 22, 2003, info@ghostvillage.comIt was a cold, lonely night on Long Island sound and I was fishing near Charles Island in my boat (I think it was a Wednesday night). I was anchored about 200 yards off of the island near the sand bar which connects to the land at low tide. I was the only boat out there, it was cold (sleeting), deserted, and windy -- the weather was on the verge of being threatening. Now I'm not really one for spooks and this could have been a legitimate entity but it sure seemed awful strange. Just after high tide at around 10:30 PM, I was looking at the island as I was fishing and saw what appeared to be someone walking on the island. It was such a dark night and I could barley see this form walking. I thought for an instant that it might be another fisherman on the island walking the shoreline. I continued to fish in this spot but didn't notice any flashlights or see any additional signs that there was someone fishing. Usually fisherman need to use flashlights to tend to their fishing equipment. There were no boats that I could see anywhere. This, combined with the fact that it was a cold, wet Wednesday night made it seem very improbable that someone would actually be on this island. One more thing of note: When the form was walking/moving it did so with remarkable ease. The slippery rocks are tough to traverse in the dark especially when they are wet. I have fished in this area many times each year for over 10 years. I know the usual comings and goings of other anglers and people. I know the island is uninhabited. I just don't think there was another living person on that island that night.
